Make a holiday apartment in A Coruna your home away from home

A Coruna holiday homes are found in an exciting city with immaculate Atlantic beaches, fascinating heritage and an abundance of unspoiled nature just a few kilometres inland. In the summer it's well worth heading to an apartment in A Coruna to make the most of some of Spain's most spectacular beaches - what's great is that many are relatively unfrequented, especially those outside the towns and cities. The region's seafood is also incredibly fresh, and dining is a real joy in A Coruna. Holiday homes in A Coruna are tastefully decorated offering the conveniences you'll need, like internet and dishwashers.

Things to do

-Beaches. A Coruna has some gorgeous urban beaches, as well as great choices amid stunning natural scenery, just a little way outside the city. The best city beaches are Orzan and Riazor, both clean and sandy and benefitting from the bracing waters of the Atlantic. A great place to spend a day by the ocean is Arteixo, which has several beautiful beaches, including ones backed by sand dunes.

-Local history. One of A Coruna's chief landmarks is the Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse that has a history stretching back to Roman times. It's still in use today, making it the oldest working lighthouse in the world, and a UNESCO site. The city formed an important coastal defence for Spain, evidenced by the spectacular Renaissance Castelo de San Anton, which guards the entrance to the bay and now houses the city's archaeological museum.

-Inland scenery. Away from the coast, one of the best places to explore is the Rias Altas area, east of A Coruna. It's a landscape of green deciduous forest, with alder, oak and chestnut trees that can be experienced along paths that wend their way through a hilly landscape nourished by rivers. Especially scenic is the route that follows the River Cambas, taking you past waterfalls and natural pools.

-Santiago de Compostela. This city has held great signficance to many generations of Catholics, as it is journey's end on the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route that covers much of western Europe. The centre here is crammed with historical significance, home to a cathedral, churches, monasteries and palaces, mostly in an ornate Baroque style. The cathedral is a must-see, blending early Romanesque, with gothic and baroque styles.

-Food and drink. The fish and seafood in A Coruna are considered sublime thanks to their perfect freshness. An example of a traditional local dish is pulpo a feira - octopus and potatoes, best accompanied by a glass of Albarino white wine. Many bars here will offer seafood as snacks, in the form of winkles and cockles, or you could opt for fine-dining and enjoy fabulous langoustine and lobster at marisquerias (shellfish restaurants).

Weather in A Coruna

A Coruna holiday apartments are in a part of Spain that has a temperate maritime climate that is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. From October to May there's quite a lot of rainfall, with between 15 and 20 wet days per month during this period. Throughout autumn, winter and spring the weather is mild but a little unsettled. The summer season brings much less rain, as well as moderate warmth, with highs in the low to mid-20s. There are 240 hours of sunshine per month in mid-summer, compared to 93 in December.

Travel to A Coruna

The closest airport is A Coruna (LCG), which handles mostly domestic traffic, but does have a couple of routes from Britain. The airport sits around nine kilometres south of the centre of A Coruna. Some visitors to A Coruna holiday accommodation may find it easier to use Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ), which is a little larger and has more connections to the UK. It's about 70 kilometres away from A Coruna, and reachable by car in just over 50 minutes. A Coruna also has inter-city rail links to Madrid, Barcelona and the Basque Country.

A relaxing no hassle stay

4 of 5
Even though we arrived very late we were met and given a this tour. Waking up in the morning even though it was raining to discover a lovely view of the sea. Walking every day along the coastline. And then the occasional check in from the owner via email was very much appreciated

Good property with an amazing, private garden

4 of 5
We had a great stay in this property. The house itself has a beautiful main bedroom and new en-suite bathroom and the rest of the house has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The highlight of the property is the massive garden and swimming pool. This is a really mature garden that is beautifully kept and very private. It is also enclosed on all sides so perfect for our young kids. Nearby (5 mins walk) are two supermarkets and a couple of restaurants which is convenient.
