Make A Holiday Rental Apartment in Simon’s Town, South Africa Your Home Away From Home

Located on the eastern shore of the Cape Peninsula, in South Africa, sits the popular area known as Simon’s Town. This used to be a naval port in its own right, but as the nearby metropolis of Cape Town expanded, so Simon’s Town then became a suburb of this fantastic South African city. This is an area that is popular with tourists and any Simon’s Town holiday is guaranteed to place you in the ideal position to enjoy the best of both worlds: either great city excitement or a laid back quieter community feel.

Things to Do on Holiday in Simon’s Town, South Africa

Simon’s Town offers an ideal holiday atmosphere for its keen visitors and the self catering accommodation here is typically of a well-appointed standard. Much of the accommodation is likely to be provided in the form of a luxury city apartment. There are ample shopping opportunities to enjoy here and there is a convenient railway connection to downtown Cape Town if you fancy even more stores. On your Simon’s Town holidays, do try to find the time to explore the old naval dockyard that can be found here. Originally, this was a British port, but now it has been taken over by The South African Navy. Of particular note here is Martello Tower which dates back to 1796. Find out the history of this strange building and delve into why the British thought this round tower would protect the harbour from attacks by the French and Dutch at the time.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Simon’s Town, South Africa

Obviously, when on your Simon’s Town holidays, you will want to leave your comfortable self catering accommodation to explore a little further afield. With this in mind, why not head to Boulders Beach which is a mere 3km south of Simon’s Town. This is where you will be able to find and enjoy plenty of well known watersports. The beach is made up by perfect white sand here and there are plenty of little coves and nooks to explore along the coast. There has even been a colony of penguins in Boulders Beach since 1985: the kids are going to love catching a glimpse of these fascinating, flightless birds in a natural habitat for them.

Weather in Simon’s Town, South Africa

If you intend to head off on a Simon’s Town holiday, you need to bear in mind that the seasons will be the complete opposite to what you are used to back home. This means that summer is during December, January and February and at this time you can expect temperatures to reach into the high 20s degrees Celsius, on average. Winter is our summertime and temperatures still do not reach any low extremes. As the area is by the coast, you can expect rainfall at any time of the year but nothing too extreme.

Very well equipped and stylish house with wonderful sea views

5 of 5
Mary and Thierry have created a wonderful holiday home which is imaginative and extremely well equipped: the large amount of crockery and cutlery was a real boon to efficient use of the dishwasher during the current water shortage. Gillian very kindly stayed late to welcome us and asked for any constructive comments about what would enhance the house so here goes: 1. Some sunloungers for round the very nice pool. 2. Some written I instructions for the oven which we found a bit mystifying though we overcame that and also enjoyed using the excellent Braai. 3. The outside lights over the drive seem to be on a sensor but weren’t working. We felt very secure in the house: it is a very peaceful neighbourhood and the house is well fenced and gated. There are instructions on how to set the alarm at night when in the house, which we would have liked to do but never got around to reading the instructions fully enough; it did look way more complex than the simple colour coded buttons for all other aspects of the alarm and gates, all of which operated very easily and effectively. So very little to be at all critical of and we enjoy d the house immensely; the sea views and the panoramic windows and dining on the terrace. We found this a good base for the cape peninsula, getting to cape point and resorts on false bay. I think the house would work really well for families with small children who want a beach oriented holiday, less well if you want easy access to the city which is about a 50 minute drive, but we weren’t bothered by that as we had planned a separate base for a week in the city and sightseeing there. Thanks Mary Thierry and Gillian, we hope to visit PingusHouse again some time.

Wonderfully well-appointed and well-located house; perfect for a relaxing family holiday

5 of 5
We had a lovely family holiday over New Year 2017/18. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated and very well-equipped, and has huge balconies with beautiful views over False Bay. We enjoyed quaint Simon's Town and livelier Kalk Bay, and had a marvelous day at Cape Point. The house is within reasonably easy striking distance of Table Mountain and Cape Town - drive the Chapman's Peak route to get the best views of mountains and ocean. If you like wide expanses of sand, Noordhoek Beach is within easy reach and much less busy than the False Bay and Cape Town beaches.
