Nestled snugly on the Western Cape of South Africa, within the boundaries of False Bay, is the wonderful suburb of Cape Town, Kalk Bay. A Kalk Bay holiday appeals to many travellers as it allows them to stay in unspoilt surroundings whilst being able to take in all of the traditions of a typical South African coastal village.
A Kalk Bay holiday is the ideal choice for those travellers who wish for a perfect beach holiday. Being located on the coast, the village offers plenty of seafront activities for family members of all ages. This includes the likes of swimming, surfing, diving, snorkelling, sailing and water-skiing. Other activities available in the village and surrounding area include tennis, golf, caving, paragliding, horse riding, hiking, whale watching and mountain biking.
If you wish to get out and explore some more of the wonderful Western Cape during your Kalk Bay holiday, then it is strongly recommended that you take the hour and a half’s journey to the small town of Caledon. Caledon is predominantly an agricultural town which allows visitors to see the “real South Africa” first-hand. Whilst visiting the town visitors could enjoy a dip in the hot springs, which have been known to have great healing properties for many thousands of years. Caledon is also home to a marvellous wild flower garden which attracts many thousands of visitors each year. There is an annual flower show held at the garden during the month of September.
If the weather is a crucial feature of your trip then you will be delighted to hear that you can expect to experience a Mediterranean climate whilst on a Kalk Bay holiday. This means that the summers are dry and hot whilst the winters are mild and wet. The winter months run from May to July and visitors can expect the temperature during the daytime to reach as high as 19 degrees Celsius. The summer months last from November until March and can see the temperature rise to as much as 25 degrees Celsius. The rain usually falls the most during the month of June when there can be as much as 5 inches in that one month alone. The driest month tends to be February when there is generally less than 1 inch of precipitation.
Starting out on a great Kalk Bay holiday is relatively easy as travellers can fly into Cape Town International Airport (CPT) which is around half an hour’s drive from the former village. There are several large airlines that offer frequent, cheap flights to Cape Town including South African Airways, Air France, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways. Passengers can leave the UK from London Heathrow (LHR).
