Make a holiday rental property or on the Garden Route, Cape Town your home away from home

The Garden Route has some of the most breath-taking coastal scenery of the Western Cape of South Africa. Winding along the coast for some 200km through towns like Witsand, Wilderness and Sedgefield, and ending up among the huge trees of the Tstisikamma Forest, a natural wonder in itself, a Garden Route tour guarantees to inspire and amaze.

Things to do on holiday on the Garden Route, Cape Town

There are some incredibly picturesque bays and beaches all along the Garden Route, tours of which would take many, many months. However, by taking a holiday rental on the Garden Route, you can discover some of the finest, least known beaches, surrounded by mountainous peaks, the vivid colours of flowers, soaring trees and gleaming lakes. The lakes, rivers and bays are ideal for swimming, fishing and pottering around in a boat. There is nothing more poignant than watching the sky turn orange as the sun sets whilst you fish the banks of one of the many rivers in the area, absorbing the atmosphere and gazing over some of the most impressive scenery you are likely to see for many years to come. There are also some fantastic scuba diving tours of the Garden Route, Cape Town, safaris of the underwater world which lies just feet from the coastal road. Whales watching and dolphin spotting is very easy on the Garden Route, and you can often spot dolphins frolicking in the shallows from the balcony of a Garden Route beach house.

Accommodation on the Garden Route, South Africa, is a haven for walkers and hikers too. The forests, mountains and coastal plateaus are a maze of winding trails leading visitors to some of the best viewpoints, wildest terrains and most interesting historical sites you can find on a Garden Route tour. The Tsitsikamma National Park is among South Africa’s finest, encompassing areas of forest, ocean, land and water, as well as the dramatic gorges of the Klein Karoo. This is one of the best places to take a Garden Route safari in South Africa. The Cango Caves, which can be found just outside the town of Oudtshoorn, are well worth investigating from any self catering Garden Route holiday home.

Places to stay on holiday on the Garden Route, Cape Town

There are many charming towns you will discover on a Garden Route tour, from Mossel Bay to George, Wilderness to Knysna, but for me, Plettenburg Bay stands out. It is one of the most fashionable spots on the Garden Route, largely due to the huge number of attractions which surround the town. Whales can often be seen off the shores of Plattenburg Bay, and the beaches are stunning. There are also plenty of trails for both hiking and mountain biking, and for the most adventurous, there is a fantastic sky diving centre here too!

Weather on the Garden Route, Cape Town

Coming from the UK, temperatures along the Garden Route will appear blissfully warm, even during the coldest days. During the summer months, temperatures are high, averaging around 27˚C for the whole month, with daily peaks of around the mid 30’s.

Travel to the Garden Route, Cape Town

Every Garden Route tour starts with a flight to Cape Town International Airport (CPT). Flights can last up to 11 hours from the UK, but as soon as you head out towards the Garden Route, you will know that the journey was worth it, many times over.

Beautiful house in a stunning location !

5 of 5
This property is in a truly stunning location,in a gated community, with breathtaking views over the lagoon and Knysna town. The house itself is very spacious with 5 bedrooms, three ensuite, and has everything you need for a memorable stay - nicely furnished, well equipped kitchen and utility room with all top range appliances.Lovely pool and gardens and 6 loungers for poolside relaxation and an excellent gas barbecue. In addition a play room and multi TV channels as per Sky in the UK. Short ten minute drive into Brenton on Sea or Knysna close to restaurants and the golf courses we were playing on our trip. I would recommend anyone to give it serious consideration. We had a great 9 nights there with friends and would most certainly rent again and so much appreciated the opportunity to rent from a very obliging owner and their contacts in South Africa who oversaw our let. Certainly the best property we’ve ever rented!

Excellent apartment and garden area

4 of 5
We had an enjoyable stay and we found everything as described. Very comfortable stay. We could only book the smallest studio and although it suited our needs would book the larger one if we returned - which we might!
