Make a holiday rental home or villa in Styria, Slovenia your home away from home

Styria is the southern most province of Slovenia, known as the ‘green state’ due to its rich nature and vast woodland regions. Traditional dress is still commonly seen, and ceremonies are an important part of life, giving visitors an unrivalled insight into the culture and lifestyles of Slovenia.

Things to do in Styria, Slovenia

The mountains and open countryside of Styria make it a haven of sports all year round. The quiet in the hills is only interrupted by the occasional walker, fisherman or mountain biker who has ventured into the hills in search of beautiful scenery and rich nature. There are a great number of trials throughout Styria, information on which is readily available from the Styria tourism information offices. The mountain biking is of such a high quality that Styria is host to the Mountain Biking world Cup (held in Maribor).

The fishing in Styria is sensational. The River Drava is among Europe’s finest coarse fishing rivers, with over 50 species calling its waters home. A holiday rental villa in Styria will not disappoint fly fishermen either. The River Savinja is a wonderfully scenic river, full of fish, and permits are readily available locally.

Golf can also be played from a self catering Styria holiday home, with a handful of excellent 18 hole golf courses found in valley bottoms throughout the region. These are especially popular, as many of Styria’s golf courses lie in the same region as the best vineyards, meaning that there are a great range of excellent little cafes and restaurants to frequent after your round.

Styria is a fantastically popular destination during the winter months too. Home to Slovenia’s best skiing resorts, Styria is known throughout Europe for its excellent value skiing and snowboarding holidays. The ski season lasts from December until March, allowing for many months of excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as cross country skiing through the beautiful, wooded valleys of Styria. The ski resorts in Styria are wonderfully luxurious, especially the famous Rogla ski resort, which beside having Slovenia’s best skiing also offers thermal baths, Olympic facilities and even a 1.4 mile toboggan run!

Places to visit on holiday to Styria, Slovenia

Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia, and is well worth investigation from any Styria accommodation. There is a great atmosphere to the town, which is a commercial centre and university town, but it is the wide, red roved streets and shear beauty of the town surroundings that really entice visitors to take holiday rental accommodation in the area.

Weather in Styria, Slovenia

Styria is a year round destination. May until October sees walkers, fishermen and mountain bikers flocking to Styria property to bask in the Mediterranean style conditions, with daily temperatures reaching around 30°C for many days in July and August. Winters are obviously cold, although not bitterly so. Average temperatures in December and January hover around freezing.

Travel to Styria, Slovenia

A holiday rental in Styria is just over an hour from Ljubliana Airport (LJU), which receives daily flights from London, provided by easyJet and Adria Airways. If London is an inconvenient departure point, the Austrian airports are not far from Styria either. Taking a hire car from the airport is a great idea, as the region is wonderfully remote, which makes the whole region open up for you.

Lovely property

5 of 5
A lovely property with well appointed facilities, very clean and tidy. Excellent kitchen, large kitchen dinner, good living room and with TV and DVD player and wifi with a super shower room. Light airy bedrooms and a fabulous view from the balcony. So peaceful and picturesque just the sound of a cow bell. We had a wonderful holiday and thoroughly enjoyed beautiful Slovenia and this lovely property which we recommend.

everything and more

5 of 5
If I could give 6 stars I would. We were very, very impressed, family of 8 adults. The drive up, the arrival, the wow factor kicked right in. There was not a single thing missed during our two week stay. In the house, around the house. We visited as much as we could, loved Ljubljana, Maribor and Ptuj. The wine tasting was also much fun. The only thing we thought could be a little less was the weather... 35 degrees Celsius is a bit hot for hikes. So thank you for letting us stay in this beautiful house. Jaap & Marianne

Excellent house in a lovely area

5 of 5
We had a great time here. The house was ideal for a family of four and could comfortably accommodate more. It's very spacious, bigger than it appears in the pictures. The garden is huge and there's a little gate in the hedge where you can see the mountain stream flow past. It was very clean, the towels and bedding are good quality and there's just about everything you need in the kitchen. The location is great. There are plenty of walks nearby and it's close to Maribor and a relatively easy drive to nearby towns and cities. Ptuj is beautiful and Varazdin in Croatia is an absolute gem of a town. it's very cheap too and we had a meal and drinks for four for under £25. Ljubljana is about 90 minutes away and must be the loveliest capital city in Europe as well as one of the friendliest. (Apart from the police who let me off with a warning but not before threatening a fine of 250 Euros for a very minor error!) Graz in Austria is certainly worth a visit as well. We intended to visit Zagreb, the lakes in Northern Croatia and to pop into Hungary but may leave that for next time. The owners were helpful right from the initial enquiries to when we were there and answered any number of questions. Very minor issues: there isn't a visitor comments book, so do some research into things to do before you go. The third bedroom has bunk beds only. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this home. We really hope to come again in 2015. Thank you so much Nick and Jackie.
