  • Marvellous villa, made really, really special by the hospitality given by the owner

Spacious and very clean two bedroom villa, with the added benefit of a very large kitchen/dining/lounge room. Comfortable beds and furniture. Kitchen well-supplied with utensils and basic supplies (salt, oil, clingfilm, etc.). On arrival, very pleased with the thoughtful provision of eggs, milk, bread, teabags, sugar, coffee (instant and filter!), orange juice and a bottle of wine. The villa has a really nice pool (shared with other villa on site). Originally planning a holiday spent mostly at the western beaches, in the event we spent many happy hours by that pool, so pleasant were the loungers, the light rippling on the pool, and the stunning views. So quiet and peaceful, a great way to relax and enjoy the sun, with a chilled glass of wine ready to hand from our fridge if we needed it! Ourique is only a few kilometers away, and there is an excellent supermarket and petrol station as you enter the town, so gaining necessary supplies for our holiday was very easy. Within the house, there were full notes on the attractions and facilities in the area, including recommendations to the local restaurants; we found these immensely useful. We did have one or two days of cooler weather (mid-October, after all), and Penny, the owner, gave us plenty of olive wood and firelighters for the log-burner stove in the lounge, which really made us toasty-warm in the evenings. Wonderful though the villa is, it was made extra-special by the continual kindness and thoughtfulness of the owner, Penny, in ways too many to express. She really tried hard to make our holiday in Portugal really special, and she succeeded. We're already planning our return trip back there next year, and if we can, we'll go's that good.

  • A peaceful retreat with a taste of the real Portugal

We have just spent a fabulous week in the peace and quiet of this lovely property. It is extremely well equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay and is enclosed in its own grounds with electric gates. It is set in a rural location with beautiful views over the countryside and is completely private yet not isolated as the property owners live only a short distance away. It was very warm during our stay so we made good use of the lovely pool to keep us cool during the day and the ceiling fans kept us cool at night. The village of Sao Domingos is only five minutes away and has a small supermarket where you can buy most of the essentials. There are also three large supermarkets in Santiago do Cacem which is an easy 20 minute car ride away. All the roads in the area we found to be in excellent condition and have very little traffic. The cottage is equipped with two good quality bicycles which we made use of most mornings, cycling either into the village or using the trails which go directly from the gates and extend for miles into the unspoilt countryside - it was a real bonus! The coast is only a 30 minute drive away where you can find glorious beaches which are untouched by tourism. We particularly liked the small seaside town of Porto Covo which had a few gift shops and restaurants and was about as touristy as it got. This is an immaculate property, spotlessly clean, fully equipped to a high standard, with welcoming owners and we would highly recommend it. Thank you Sue & Patrick for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage..
