Make a holiday villa in Santa Cruz your home away from home

Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, is a great place for holidaymakers to look for relaxation and adventure. The weather is ideal for sunbathing and all sorts of outdoor activity while its streets are lined with monuments that date back to the Roman era among other important historical sites. Tourists will find that there are lively shopping centres with the latest in fashion as well as trendy cafes. And as they enjoy the delights of Lisbon, holidaymakers will have the joy of staying in holiday rentals in Santa Cruz, right next to the Atlantic Ocean. This means easy access to stretches of golden sands and the unlimited ocean breeze. Being part of the Torres Vedras municipality itself boasts a rich history, history buffs won’t have to go far to find something interesting. The holiday apartments in Santa Cruz command incredible views overlooking swaths of golf courses and the Atlantic.

Things to do

-Monuments: Even without leaving the Torres Vedras area, residents of Santa Cruz holiday homes will be able to view such astonishing constructions as the Moorish Castle. There are also other military installations, built during the locale’s earlier years which have now fallen into disuse. Santa Cruz itself has its fair share of ancient marvels including an old water mill and churches such as the Santa Helena chapel.

-Museums: To add to the monuments, visitors can make a point of stopping by the Municipal Museum Leonel Trindade. This is where artefacts detailing the history of mankind from prehistoric times to when the Romans occupied this locale. There are also dinosaur fossils from the Upper Jurassic period and plenty of info about the different dinosaur species that existed. The name of the museum comes from a renowned native archaeologist and museum director.

-Beaches: Visitors lucky enough to secure holiday villas in Santa Cruz will find that they are close to the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Here they’ll be able to recline and gaze into the endless blue of the ocean while receiving that long-awaited sun tan. The coastline is interspersed with lofty cliffs from which visitors can enjoy sublime panoramas.

-Jose Alvalade Stadium: Football fans will jump at the opportunity while in the Portuguese capital to pay homage to the stadium where Cristiano Ronaldo’s footballing journey began. Holidaymakers in Santa Cruz holiday homes will only have to travel about 27 miles to get there. They can take time to peruse the club’s history or wander through the complex which also contains a movie theatre, health club and a sports pavilion.

-Vasco da Gama Bridge: This wonder is also about an hour’s drive from Torres Vedras but is well worth the effort to visit. At 17km, the Vasco da Gama Bridge is the longest in Europe and among the ten longest in the world. It spans the Tagus River, not far from Lisbon.

Weather in Santa Cruz

The weather in this is very temperate and holidaymakers who go there between July and August expecting oppressively hot climate will be surprised to find amicable temperature averages of about 20°C. However, there is precious little rainfall at this time of year. The warm weather lasts until October when temperatures descend into the teens as autumn arrives. But even when winter finally arrives, temperature averages don’t go much below 15°C.

Travel to Santa Cruz

The Lisbon Airport is less than 10 miles from Torres Vedras and so tourists will find it reasonably straightforward to get to their holiday homes in Santa Cruz. Most popular airlines have direct flights from the majority of the major European cities to this airport. On arrival it is advised that travellers get a taxi to the Campo Grande bus station and get a bus from there to the Torres Verdas area. The total cost of this should come to less than €20.

Fantastic holiday in a lovely villa.

5 of 5
We stayed here in August 2017 as a party of 4 - 2 adults, 1 10-year old and a very sprightly OAP! We all loved it - the beds were comfy, the villa was clean & comfortable and very well equipped with pretty much everything you need in a home from home. The garden is a good size with private off-road parking for the car at the side of the villa. The absolute best bit though was the pool! Not a day went by without us going in - be that for a whole day lounging by the pool, a quick dip after a trip out, or even a moonlight swim. Big enough for li-lo battles & bliss to not be sharing it with anyone else! Incredibly refreshing for when the sun gets a bit too much. Plenty of beaches within a very short drive - our favourite was probably Porto Novo (15 minutes drive) for its facilities. You wouldn't be disappointed in any beach though really & if one looks a bit busy, there will be another one a couple of minutes away. If we had to list any downsides it would be that there are a couple of dogs in the neighbourhood that occasionally seem intent on waking the whole area up in the middle of the night. In fairness though, it is a semi-rural area with lots of wildlife so maybe it's to be expected. We had no issues with the kitchen or bathrooms - they were very clean and everything worked. The dishwasher was great at cleaning all the mucky dishes after another fabulous barbecue! Overall, we loved it & we would definitely come again. Cesar made us feel very welcome and left us too it which was great. 100% this place is a keeper!! Dave, Sarah, Charlie & Marlene

The house exceeded my expectations. Lovely bedrooms and comfy beds. The kitchen is really well equiped and the bbq was great. Plenty of living space big telly and the hammock in the garden were a hit with our kids. Really liked the beach which was not busy even at an August weelend and had a nice little cafe.
