Portugal Villas

If you’re on the hunt for villas in Portugal then HomeAway has the kind of selection that you’d expect from one of Europe’s top holiday destinations. It’s a country with medieval cities, world-class golf courses, picturesque inland scenery and a coastline that’s home to great surf beaches and of course the famous Algarve in the south. Many of our Portugal villas offer the benefit of patios, sun loungers and gardens. You can also define the guest facilities that you would like at your accommodation such as; pools, air conditioning, parking access and Wi-Fi.

Things to do in Portugal

  • Beaches in Portugal - A top destination in Portugal, the Algarve is known for its golden sandy beaches; we have several Algarve Villas, should you wish to be based here. Further north the waves are more dramatic and suited for surfers, but you’ll also find pristine sheltered bays, perfect for swimming. 275 of Portugal’s beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status; highlights include Praia da Rocha in the Algarve, and Carcavelos, near Lisbon.
  • Golf Courses in Portugal - Many head to Portugal to enjoy the country’s fabulous golf courses. A large proportion of its courses are considered among Europe’s very best; the most prestigious include Monte Rei in the Algarve and Furnas, which is on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores.
  • Countryside in Portugal - One of the best things about Portugal’s picturesque inland regions is that they remain off the beaten track. The north is particularly beautiful, home to the Alto Douro wine region, verdant hills and mountains and Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, which boasts countless waterfalls and is a fantastic location for hikes and camping.
  • Culture in Portugal - There are 14 different UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit in Portugal. Especially impressive are the preserved historic city centres like Sintra near Lisbon, which was a residence for royalty for centuries and Guimaraes in the North, which has a magnificent castle and is a site significant to the birth of this nation.
  • Lisbon - Lisbon is a modern European city with a character all of its own, offering great shopping and affordable dining. Castelo de Sao Jorge is one of the essential sights; it is perched above the city and offering fantastic views. The Belém area is also well worth experiencing; it boasts the spectacular Jerónimos Monastery.

Weather in Portugal

Portugal has a number of different microclimates, but overall the country’s weather can be defined as Mediterranean. There’s plenty of sunshine, in a corner of Europe that gets more days of sun on average than anywhere else. The further north you go the more rainfall you can expect. Temperatures tend not to fluctuate too much from north to south, apart from water temperatures, which are lower in the north. Winters in all but upland regions are mild, with highs in the mid-teens by day. Summers are warm and dry with temperatures in the mid-20s from around May to October.

Travel to Portugal

The Portugal villas that we offer can be reached via three international airports; Lisbon Portela (LIS), Faro (FAO) in the south and Porto (OPO) in the north. Lisbon is the country’s main international gateway, with connections across Europe, to Brazil and North America. The road system in Portugal is well developed, with 44 motorways and easy connections from the airports to main tourism regions. There are metro systems in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, and all major towns have their own public bus networks.

Excellent - find - Tavira life - all around you - in the local community

5 of 5
We loved staying in Tavirapad, thank you so much Merry & Simon - the owners are very lovely, helpful, on hand if you need something - and kept in touch by messages through the week, if we needed anything or had any questions or queries. As we had travelled previously to Tavira, we knew the main areas and where we like to be, staying at Tavirapad, enabled us to see more, walk and find new streets and cafes and culture - Tavira we find very cultural - we love getting to know more of its history and learn more each time we visit. Our main reason for visiting Tavira now we found it, is to Relax, you can definitely do this at Tavirapad, home from home, everything you would need in a comfortable, stylish home. Thank you again for the welcome, gifts - the oranges were the best ever !! We like walking. On one walk one day, out towards ferry port Das Agua we felt very privalaged to come across a large flock of flamingoes. To see them in the wild was a real treat and experience - simply beautiful. No one hardly around - just for us !! Eating out, we ate snacks, lunch at Tavira Lounge, always excellent, nice staff, good wine, reasonable prices, you can sit on a lovely balcony - booking sometimes is necessary for the balcony. Dinner, tapas mainly we choose, Mira, across the Roman bridge, in a square behind the front of the Main Street, again booking sometimes necessary - great quality - choices, vegetarian, wines very nice. Pausa. Same square. Tapas. Excelled. Little India. We had a take away meal, usually we stick to local cuisine only but could not resist as it was always busy and on our way back to Tavirapad, home from home!! We used local transport very easily - not expensive, we hoped to hire bikes, (previous review Balsa) near by, as it was August and quite hot, we decided to leave this activity until next time we visit - which we defiantly hope to do and stay again at Merry & Simons Tavirapad. one of the best accommodations. We have stayed in ! :) :) Catch the ferry over to Isla Tavira Beach is a must - a lovely experience large island of beach, lifeguards, great waves, people having a great time, traditional eateries on the beach too, we decided on a fab pizza and a salad, reasonable..too. We also took a private boat tour of the outer islands - and waterways, easy to book - we received a great tour, knowledgable, a great tour guide. So much to offer - we have no hesitation to - stay at Tavirapad in the future. Tku Both.

Stylish modern apartment wth great host

The apartment is brand new with everything you could need. We loved the quirky style. It is near to supermarkets and good restaurants and easy to get to the city (we mostly used Uber but there is public transport too or you can walk). Vania is a lovely thoughtful host.
