The town of Almancil is located in the Algarve's “Golden Triangle”. This area is made up of three resort towns: Quinta do Lago, Quarteira, and Almancil. Things to do

Praia da Quinta do Lago:

This beach is made up of soft golden sand and clear waters. It runs all the way from the Ria Formosa to Vale do Lobo. There is a wooden walkway that spans the length of the beach. A few restaurants can be found here, many of which have terrific views of the Ria Formosa.

Golf:

The Golden Triangle is home to some of the finest courses in the Algarve. In nearby Vale do Lobo, golfers can play the Ocean and Royal courses, and neighbouring Quinta do Lago has the Pinheiros Altos and San Lorenzo courses. Tee times can be arranged online or by phone.

Olhos de Agua:

The quaint and quiet coastal town of Olhos de Agua is found 15 miles from Almancil. The main street has a few restaurants, bars and shops and leads directly to the town beach, Praia d’Agua. This clean beach is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Sao Lourenco Church:

In 1755 a devastating earthquake shook the Algarve, destroying almost every building. Somehow the Sao Lourenco Church withstood the quake and can be visited to this day. The church was constructed in 1730, its interior decorated with blue tiles and intricate woodwork. It offers a real glimpse into what the Algarve once looked like.

Loule:

Locals and tourists frequent the market hall in Loule to purchase local produce, meats and fish. On Saturdays, Loule comes alive with a weekly gypsy market. Handicrafts such as lace, pots and utensils are for sale, as are homemade delicacies.

Faro:

The historic capital of the region, Faro, is only eight miles away and makes for an interesting day trip. Remnants of the original 13th century city walls and cathedral can be visited. Additionally, boats depart daily from the city centre for the islands of the Ria Formosa.

Weather in Almancil

The Algarve is known for its near-perfect weather conditions: summers are hot with plenty of sunshine and hardly a drop of rain. Average temperatures in July and August fall within the 28-30°C range. September and October are also lovely times to visit with average temperatures of 25°C and minimal rainfall. Winters in Almancil are mild with average temperatures of 15-16°C. November and December see the most rainfall, though to call these months rainy would be a stretch.

Travel to Almancil

Faro airport (FAO) is the closest to Almancil; most major UK and European cities have service to and from there. Almancil is located eight miles from Faro airport – car or taxi is the fastest way to get there, the drive taking 15-20 minutes. There is, however, a bus station in Almancil with service to and from Faro city centre. To reach Faro city centre from the airport, a short ride by taxi or bus is necessary.

Lovely apartment. Very clean and so well equipped. Had everything we needed.

We were met at the apartment by Anabela, her husband and son who helped to carry our bags up the 3 flights of stairs. There is no lift which was no problem for us but anyone not able for stairs should be aware. Anabela showed us around and gave us contact details for her husband in case we needed to contact him during our stay. She had a big bottle of water waiting for us and ice creams for our girls, which was a lovely welcome as we arrived about 11pm. She had no problem with our late arrival either, which was very nice of her. The apartment is very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you could need, with a full size fridge-freezer, cooker, microwave and three different types of coffee maker! There was coffee provided and also other basics like sugar, cooking oil, ketchup, rice and others. I found this very helpful. The living room was spacious, large tv with lots of channels, a good few had movies in English with Portuguese subtitles, which worked well for us. The bedrooms were lovely with comfortable beds. Both bathrooms were spotless and had lots of toiletries provided and plenty of towels, though we brought our own beach towels. The beach is only five minutes walk away, with a small supermarket near there too. The train station is two minutes walk with frequent trains to Lisbon in one direction and Cascais in the other. San Pedro Do Estoril, where the apartment is does not have much else so we found we did need to go to Estoril itself, or Cascais for more shops, bars and restaurants. There is a lovely coastal walking path, about 30 minutes to Estoril and another 20 to Cascais. In San Pedro Do Estoril I would recommend La Lombonera for fabulous, great value steaks and Gordo's for lovely pizzas. We loved Anabel's apartment. Only suggestion I would have would be maybe a folder with recommendations for restaurants and cafes and advice about how public transport tickets work and good sites to see etc. There were lots of guide books and leaflets and cards from restaurants but no actual personal recommendations, which I would have liked. But we were very happy with the apartment and would certainly recommend it to others.

Very nice comfortable studio with stunning view

The studio on the 12th floor was very clean and well equiped, with comfy bed and nice bathroom. The morning and evening sit-down on the balcony was lovely. The walk to the center of Cascais took me less than 20 minutes. There are two cafes just in front of the building and very good cafe and bakery Doce de Canela about 250 metres on the way to the center. Also there is the Police Station directly by the building so I could feel very safe :-) The bus number 400 stops directly at the main entrance but the bus does not go to the train station but there are another bus stop near on the main road where you can take a bus to the center or Cabo da Roca which is certainly worth to visit.
