Comfortable clean and spacious with garden and good internet

We had an enjoyable family holiday in Madeira - an island of many contrasts, with lots to discover. The house we stayed at in Machico was very good, and perfect for a family or group.

Fantastic apartment in a great location and lovely owner

5 of 5
We (me and my husband) stayed in Casa Branca for the first week of the new year and cannot recommend the apartment or Cidalia the owner highly enough. It was our first time travelling independently to Madeira having previously stayed in hotels in Funchal and we won't go back to hotels having experienced the convenience of having our own fully equipped apartment. The apartment is furnished to a high standard with lovely personal touches and interesting art work and is very spacious and comfortable with plenty of room for a group of four. The kitchen is very well equipped with oven, gas hob, all pots, pans, utensils and even a washing machine. The bathrooms (2 of them) have showers and one has a bath - plenty of hot water on tap. The bedroom we used had one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. There are two small balconies, one getting the sun in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Cidalia could not have been more helpful - she met us at the apartment as soon as we arrived and gave us one of the best welcomes we have ever had, sharing her knowledge of the local area and tips on how to make the most of our trip. Cidalia and Kevin were both on hand throughout our stay in case we experienced any problems or needed any help or information. Machico itself is a superb resort (and is flat!). There are lots of excellent restaurants, snack bars and shops on the doorstep and the golden sand beach is just a stroll away. We were surprised by how much cheaper eating out was in comparison to Funchal. The location is great for accessing the east side of the island and is well linked to the motorway. It's just a 10 min drive from the airport so a very short transfer. You can hear planes passing overhead but they are infrequent and we soon became accustomed to them - a small price to pay for all of the positives. There are walks from the door for those interested in hiking and good bus links to nearby resorts for the return journey. There is on-street parking outside the apartment which is pay and display (2 euros for around 3.5 hours from 8am and you can pay the night before for the morning after). There is also a car park under the apartment with an allocated parking bay but this is via ramp access and a little tricky to drive in and out of - we managed it with a Renault Captur but would probably opt for a smaller (but still powerful) car next time. All in all a fabulous stay and great value for money. We will definitely be back :)
