Things to do

-Landmarks: Lisbon is rich in landmarks which detail the city’s illustrious history. If you didn’t know, this city is home to Europe’s longest bridge; the Ponte Vasco da Gama. This incredible feat of human engineering measures 17.2km and offers amazing sea views and views over the rest of the city. Also in the city is an older engineering specimen, the Aqueduto das Aguas Livres, an 18th century aqueduct which lays claim to the title of the world’s largest stone arch. The intricately sculpted Belem Tower is yet another impressive structure visitors need to look out for. Its multiple arches and towers stand in stark contrast to the blue summer sky and the waters that surround it.

-Ancient buildings: Among the historic buildings holidaymakers living in Lisbon City will want to visit is the Castelo Sao Jorge which is perched on a hill commanding spectacular panoramas over the city and river. The city is also known to host several churches, one of the more outstanding is the Igreja de Sao Roque, an edifice which was constructed by the Jesuits in 1574. It provides art lovers a real treat with the magnificent paintings that adorn its ceiling. There is a museum inside the church as well. Also worth a visit is the Saint Engracia Church whose construction was started in 1682 and only completed in 1966.

-Museums: There is no shortage of museums in the Portuguese capital and history buffs will find that the city has plenty to offer them. Art lovers will also be interested in visiting the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga where artwork dating back to the 14th century can be found. Treasures from Portugal’s former colonies in East Africa which date back to the 16th century are also on display here. Another museum that marries history and art is the Museo do Azulejo which is actually a converted convent. In the Pavilion of Knowledge or Pavilhao do Conhecimento visitors will find an interactive science and technology museum.

-Nightlife: Night owls will enjoy their time in Lisbon City holiday homes as there are plenty of places where they can break loose and shake a leg. In Lux they will find a classy hangout where all kinds of music from the traditional techno to live performances are played. For the dancers there are two dancefloors and for those looking for a night breeze swept recline, there is a terrace. Jazz enthusiasts can make a beeline for the Hot Clube de Portugal which is reputedly one of the world’s oldest jazz clubs.

Fantastic apartment with a spectacular view from the terrace!

5 of 5
We loved Lisbon and this apartment! We were met at the apartment by Alberto's lovely friend Cristina, who gave us a quick tour and she was happy to answer any questions we had. This apartment is far more spacious than it looks in the photos. There were only 2 of us staying, but there would still be plenty of space for 4 people. The unusual layout adds to it’s charm. The outside terrace is huge with an amazing view of the bridge over the Tagus. It is well furnished with a table, chairs, sunloungers and BBQ. Perfect for relaxing after a day of sight seeing. The large sun lounge was also ideal for eating in the evening, when it was a bit windy on the terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and also had a selection of the basic requirements for self catering - Condiments, coffee, sugar etc. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was always hot and powerful enough. The location is perfect for the metro, trams and trains, for getting around all the main sights. There is a good selection of restaurants & bars close by, but there is also a couple of mini markets and a butchers shop just around the corner. The market is a short walk down the hill, for fresh fish, fruit & vegetables. So self catering is no problem if you don't want to eat out every night. . A couple of things that weren't a problem for us, but others may want to consider before booking: There is no lift and it is on the 3rd floor. However, it gets easier the more you do it, and the view from the terrace is worth the climb! As said in previous reviews, it can be a bit noisy at night. However, you do have to remember you are right in the heart of a vibrant area of the city. If you want a quiet area, then this is not the place for you. We met Alberto on our first night at the apartment because I had to phone him when we stupidly locked ourselves out! However, he was very nice about it and came over to meet us and sorted it out quickly. It was nice to meet and chat to him, but thankfully we didn't need to bother him for the rest of the week. I am sure if you had any issues during your stay, he would be very helpful. I would recommend this apartment for the location, comfort and view. If we are ever in Lisbon again, I wouldn't hesitate to book this apartment again. Thank you Alberto and Cristina :)
