Things to do

-Landmarks: Lisbon is rich in landmarks which detail the city’s illustrious history. If you didn’t know, this city is home to Europe’s longest bridge; the Ponte Vasco da Gama. This incredible feat of human engineering measures 17.2km and offers amazing sea views and views over the rest of the city. Also in the city is an older engineering specimen, the Aqueduto das Aguas Livres, an 18th century aqueduct which lays claim to the title of the world’s largest stone arch. The intricately sculpted Belem Tower is yet another impressive structure visitors need to look out for. Its multiple arches and towers stand in stark contrast to the blue summer sky and the waters that surround it.

-Ancient buildings: Among the historic buildings holidaymakers living in Lisbon City will want to visit is the Castelo Sao Jorge which is perched on a hill commanding spectacular panoramas over the city and river. The city is also known to host several churches, one of the more outstanding is the Igreja de Sao Roque, an edifice which was constructed by the Jesuits in 1574. It provides art lovers a real treat with the magnificent paintings that adorn its ceiling. There is a museum inside the church as well. Also worth a visit is the Saint Engracia Church whose construction was started in 1682 and only completed in 1966.

-Museums: There is no shortage of museums in the Portuguese capital and history buffs will find that the city has plenty to offer them. Art lovers will also be interested in visiting the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga where artwork dating back to the 14th century can be found. Treasures from Portugal’s former colonies in East Africa which date back to the 16th century are also on display here. Another museum that marries history and art is the Museo do Azulejo which is actually a converted convent. In the Pavilion of Knowledge or Pavilhao do Conhecimento visitors will find an interactive science and technology museum.

-Nightlife: Night owls will enjoy their time in Lisbon City holiday homes as there are plenty of places where they can break loose and shake a leg. In Lux they will find a classy hangout where all kinds of music from the traditional techno to live performances are played. For the dancers there are two dancefloors and for those looking for a night breeze swept recline, there is a terrace. Jazz enthusiasts can make a beeline for the Hot Clube de Portugal which is reputedly one of the world’s oldest jazz clubs.

The elegant and extremely stylish apartment is in a great part of town , close enough to the Barrio Alto but quiet and peaceful. It was comfortable and well appointed .We loved the marble shower with the view . Pedro has a great eye and we can't recommend his lovely eclectic apartment enough .

This is a very large, modern, apartment with 4 good sized bedrooms (one with dressing room and separate ensuite), a further bathroom, very large living and eating area, decent kitchen with separate utility room plus a separate WC near the front door. The living and kitchen overlook the back towards the river and VdG bridge. All bedrooms face the front so don't have views and unfortunately face the railway lines and a current construction site which means you cannot really leave windows open at night. Nights are reasonably cool in Lisbon which means that the one A/C unit in the lounge is just about sufficient - but you do have to leave doors open to allow cooled air to reach the bedrooms. The opening double doors from lounge and balcony was a real bonus for being able to sit in morning sun for breakfast. TV was OK but probably needs upgrading soon Use of easy garage parking in the basement was a real bonus - access to a quiet back road. The surrounding area is quite Business like but it means there are quite a few loacel eating places and loads of ATMs. Local bakary/cafe towards the central station was very nice; there are also lots of bakeries, etc at the station. Huge supermarket at the VdG centre (basement level) was simply excellent with everything you could possibly need and probably best prices for miles. Car hire was easy from the central station (Avis) and they were very helpful. Drives to Setubal (south), Sintra (NW) and the beautiful coast were amazing. Trip over the 25 de Abril bridge to the massive beaches in the south was incredible. Driving in Lisbon is, er, an experience for the more experienced drivers! We simply loved Lisbon and will definitely be back for another tour in this area! Thanks to Avani for arranging so much and being 'on call' more or less 24/7!
