Family home, good for relaxing holiday.

4 of 5
The owner was very helpful answering preliminary queries; the description of the property was detailed and accurate, arrival instructions worked a treat; the kitchen is generously equipped and we appreciated the basic welcome supplies. It certainly has the feel of a well loved family home. We were not very ambitious exploring the area, but did enjoy walks alongside the river, the Chapel and 'beach' at Barca do Lago, lunch at the Golf Club, Ofir, Esposende and San Laurenco, Barcelos on market day. The nearest bar was our reliable supply of bread rolls! We spent quite a lot of time by the pool, which unfortunately does not have a shallow end suitable for very young children. Would be more than happy to recommend this property, with the proviso about the swimming pool.

Lovely property in a fabulous area

5 of 5
This condo is exactly as pictured on the website. It is spacious, modern and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is really well equipped and there is a BBQ in the garden. Everything worked as it should. The garden is private and has a lovely shaded veranda as well as a hammock, table and chairs. The owner, Ana, was super to deal with and we were treated to a delivery of fresh bread each morning. There are markets, shops and a large supermarket close by. We made good use of the bicycles to explore the area and ride around the complex. Quinta da Barca is a beautifully maintained complex with security gated access which makes it feel very safe for kids. There is a huge communal outdoor pool with lifeguard and small bar; tennis courts; football pitch; golf course, putting green and driving range, all of which are beautifully maintained and easily accessible. There is also a very nice restaurant on site. The complex is clearly popular with wealthy Portuguese who arrive en masse at the weekend. The pool area gets busy then but during the week it is much quieter. We did experience a bit of noise late at night from youths who congregated around the central area. Ana said that this is unusual and she lodged a complaint with the complex management. There are some renovations going on around the complex, particularly the marina area so there is a bit of construction noise from 0800hrs on weekdays. It is not especially obtrusive. I can't speak highly enough of this area of Portugal - I could write pages detailing everything we saw and did! We couldn't fit everything into our two weeks there so will definitely return and won't hesitate to stay in the same condo. Esposende is beautiful and great for cycling, surfing, eating and drinking. Quinta da mata brava equestrian centre 500m from the Quinta da Barca is absolutely wonderful - my horse-mad daughter spent a lot of time there with the lovely people and rode along the beach and through the forest. The national park Penedes-Geres is within easy reach and we spent two days enjoying the Arado waterfalls and fantastic watersports in and around Rio Caldo. Viana, Barcelos and Porto are all an easy drive away and worth visiting. The Portuguese people in this area are absolutely wonderful. It is worth getting to grips with a little of the language and - as I did- get a translator app on your phone as English is not widely spoken. The food in the area is delicious and of very high quality for exceptionally low prices
