  • Very nice location, quiet but with easy access to local amenities.

The first night we arrived was the end of the 2018 heat wave in Portugal and it was really hot - uncomfortably so for a couple of northern Europeans but we were reassured by Fernando & Ana that all would be well as the temperatures were due to return to normal the next day. They were absolutely right and we really enjoyed our 2 weeks. The Herdade do Castanheiro is a wonderful location for relaxing without the usual hum of tourists coming & going and noise at night. We used the Herdade as our base to visit local towns, villages & beaches on the west coast - all of which were fantastic. A diverse range of activities are easy to get to around the local area, including the Zoo (just down the road), kayaking at Lagos, boat trips (also Lagos) and surfing on the beaches at Monte Clerigo, Arrafi, etc. There was lots to do and not enough time to do it all. We would have loved to visit Silves for the medieval festival but just couldn't fit it into our schedule. Ana & Fernando made us feel very welcome and were always available. We would have loved to have spent more time here but as is always the case with holidays, eventually we had to go home. We would highly recommend this location for couples or families.

A well equipped house with a beautiful garden and a fantastic pool. It takes about 12 mins to get into Lagos; there is a good golf course with a driving range a similar distance away at Espiche. The owner’s father tends his fruit and vegetable plot on the land and is very generous, giving us lots of fruit during our stay. There are good running trails nearby and a riding stable just across from the house.
