If you're looking for lazy days in the sun, without being far from the action, then “Cerro Grande” area could be just right for you. You really do get the “Best of both worlds”.
Set on the south-west tip of Europe is the “Algarve”, Europe's sunniest spot; a unique jewel where the finest beaches and weather on the continent meet traditional historic Portugal.
The Cerro Grande, is a prestigious residential area situated on a hill on the western side of Albufeira. The Windmill provides a focal point and offers fantastic views of the Ocean, and of the Old Town of Albufeira.
Whilst Cerro Grande is within easy reach of all the attractions of the resort, its location on a quiet hillside provides a peaceful escape from the bustle of the town, for those looking for rest and relaxation.
Ten minutes walk to the sea; with the multi coloured architecture of the new Marina to the west, and old town Albufeira to the east, this provides an ideal location for those looking for a base to explore the Algarve.
Albufeira - known as the "St. Tropez" of the Algarve, is now one of its most popular resorts, with more hours of sunshine than any other location in Europe.
Famous for its lively and social nightlife, beautiful beaches, varied water sports, golf courses, glorious countryside and local cuisine, Albufeira has developed into a holiday haven for all ages.
Some of the old charm is still there, and it is to be found in the narrow streets, lined with whitewashed houses, apartments, cafes and shops, which lead down to a central square, Largo Eng. Duarte Pacheco. "New" Albufeira, centred on Areias de São João, is on the east side. The most famous thoroughfare is well known as The Strip. It stretches past scores of cafes, restaurants, discos and bars, to a big busy beach called Praia da Oura.
Many shows, concerts and exhibitions are specially organised through the holiday season by the Town Hall.
The quality and safety of Albufeira's beaches has been rewarded with a high number of Blue Flags and is maintained, virtually year after year.
A tunnel, at the end of a pedestrian-only shopping area leads to the town's main beach called the Praia do Penico, but there are other fine beaches within easy reach.
To the east of the town centre is Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach) about half a kilometre away. Praia da Oura about 3km, Praia da Falésia 10km and Balaia and Olhos de Água are closer to Albufeira .West of Albufeira are other beaches located amongst the rocks and coves, such as the Praia da Galé.
Theme parks and water parks (Zoomarine and Aqualand) are only a 15 minute drive.
Algarve Shopping (130 shops, cafés, ten-pin bowling and cinemas) is 15 minutes' away.
Albufeira has two golf courses: one with 9 holes (Balaia), and one with 18 holes (Salgados) is 15 minutes' drive away; the courses at Vilamoura are 20 minutes' away.
The Cerro Grande area of Albufeira is perfectly placed for the “Best of both Worlds”.
