The apartment is very stylish with probably the best shower we’ve had on Holiday. Lots of nice personal touches in the apartment. Louisa who met us on our arrival was lovely and showed us how things worked. The apartment is ideally situated for the attractions of Belem of which there are many. You need the tram or bus to reach the other parts of Lisbon, but the stops are right outside the apartment. Some great restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes walk. The apartment is up three flights of very steep stairs so it may be a problem for some guests.
Ian and Teresa's villa was absolutely perfect for us. Clean and spacious (although the Lisbon weather was so good to us, we were rarely indoors), it is a real home-from-home and provided the perfect respite after busy days exploring the sights. Ian and Teresa are local and are an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish - they were always on hand to offer tips and advice if needed. The pool is fantastic and, when the sun finally deserts that area at the very end of the day, the balcony upstairs is the perfect spot for watching the sun go down. We lacked nothing in the villa and knew that we only had to ask if we needed anything. A car is pretty much necessary if you want to explore, although the local Pingo Doce supermarket (5 minutes by car/15-20 walking) has everything you need and there is a little local restaurant near Pingo Doce which, although not fancy, does very good fresh fish. We parked at Cacilhas (for one euro twenty for the whole day!) and took the ferry across to Cais do Sodre (on Ian's excellent advice) to do a walking tour of Lisbon and explored Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. We also walked up and down to the local Caparica Centre on a couple of evenings. This walk takes about 45 minutes but is hilly (we are all keen walkers!) and probably a bit ambitious for small children or the infirm. We had never been to Lisbon before but all absolutely loved it. We have much left to explore so hope to go back and would book Villa Amaro again without hesitation.
