The neighbourhood of Calicos lies to north of Albufeira, around a ten minute walk from the centre of the city. Staying in a peaceful residential area such as Calicos can be of particular benefit if you are planning busy days on the beaches and sightseeing, and busy nights of wining and dining, as it offers a quiet base to return to for some well-earned sleep. Accommodation in Calicos is of a high standard, and includes luxury villas and modern townhouses.

Things to do in Calicos, Portugal

Calicos is a small residential area that is just a short walk from the attractions of Albufeira. The city is a family-orientated resort, with something to suit everyone.

Nearly everyone loves the beach, and Albufeira has plenty to choose from. A number of sandy stretches run both east and west from the city, so whether you plan on partaking in water sports, enjoying beach activities, sitting in a beach bar or simply relaxing and enjoying the sunshine, there is an option to suit.

Albufeira also has plenty in the way of bars, cafes and restaurants. ‘The Strip’ is the main bar stretch in the modern part of town, and the place to head if you want to party until the small hours. In the old town you will find more refined cafe-bars and wine bars, allowing you to sip a glass of Portuguese red and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.

The cobbled streets of the old town make for excellent walks, with their whitewashed buildings taking you back in time and street entertainers performing on almost every corner. Places of historic interest here include the 18th century Parish Church, which is recognisable for its bell tower, and the 15th century Misericordia Chapel, which was formerly an Arab mosque.

Good location , South Facing and very private

4 of 5
We came at the end of June in 2016 , see my previous review, i've given 4/5 only because we were disappointed that the pool waterfall wasn't working during our stay because of a faulty pump, and the pool was a bit dirty on arrival, the pool man comes at unusual times, mid day and another time at 16.30 to try and fix the pump but hey ho that's only a small gripe. We also told Nuno the tv had no signal and he soon had someone to us to fix it, which we were very grateful, unfortunately only lasted a day and a half and all we could watch was bbc world news channel, but again only a small gripe, couldn't get internet access with wi-fi so my tablet was useless. Other than these minor issues, and they were only minor, more of a frustration the villa was clean on arrival, comfortable, especially the main bed, the a/c was so appreciated when hot, BUT THE GEM OF THE VILLA is the fridge/freezer with freezing cold water on tap and ice cubes/slush at the ready for your drinks and cocktails and the location of the villa is superb, south facing and so private and quiet, the neighbours are all friendly and not at all noisy but be warned the morning chorus by the dogs in the local area takes some getting used to, once one starts they all join in- 'who let the dogs out'- no need for your alarm clock. ha ha. We would definitely recommend this villa and the owner -Nuno is very friendly and helpful arranging taxi to and from airport and will try and sort any issues and problems you may have within his resources. We would love to return next year if its available on our chosen dates and of course if Nuno will have us.

EXCELLENT VILLA IN GOOD LOCATION

5 of 5
We spent 12 nights in this lovely villa which had a nice pool , it was very clean and well maintained . Location was perfect . A steady 15 minute walk to the old town which was full of bars and restaurants. There was plenty of supermarkets nearby . Lidl and Aldi only 5 minutes walk away. We would definitely recommend this villa to our friends and relatives. We booked the villa with Carlos who was very helpful and the booking process was easy. Any questions we had , Carlos responded very quickly through email and he also recommended quite a few nice restaurants . We would definitely visit this villa again . Debbie & David
