Calicas is an exclusive resort in the Lagos region of the Algarve, just a few minutes from the beautiful beach of Meia Praia, on of the most celebrated beaches on the whole of the beach haven that is the Algarve. The luxury villas of Calicas are among the finest in the Algarve, surrounded by lush landscaped gardens, yet just 2 minutes from the centre of Lagos.

Things to see in Calicas, Portugal

The beach is of huge appeal to anyone taking Calicas accommodation, especially as the closest beach, Meia Praia, is one of the most delightful stretches of fine sand anywhere in the Algarve, which, when you consider the vast amount of competition, is a huge claim. There is always plenty of space on which to relax on Meia Praia, and the gently sloping sands make swimming safe. The winds that circle around the Bay of Lagos, on which the beach stands, make conditions ideal for windsurfing, kite-surfing and sailing. Scuba diving, deep sea fishing and sailing lessons and excursions are easily arranged from either the beach or from Lagos Town.

Golf holidays also thrive from holiday rental accommodation in Calicas, Algarve. The famous Boavista Golf Resort is just a few miles away, open 365 days a year and offering sensational golf with remarkable views from every green. Despite the huge popularity of the course, there are rarely crowds, and on the rare occasion that there are, you have the pick of some 20 golf courses within a short drive.

Culture is easy to come by from a Calicas villa. This section of the Algarve is steeped in history, with stunning Moorish, Arabic and medieval remains adorning the countryside at almost every turn. The local gastronomy is quite spectacular too, especially the seafood. Regardless of whether you are buying fresh fish to cook at your self catering Calicas villa or heading into Lagos to sample locally prepared seafood, you are guaranteed freshness as the fishermen hold morning markets at various points along the coastline.

Lovely property, quiet with great views

This villa is really clean and well maintained with all the facilities you need to make an easy and enjoyable stay. We all enjoyed the clean pool, especially the kids, although it gets deep quite quickly so kids without armbands need to be quite proficient. Kitchen was well equipped apart from a conventional oven. Rooms are of a good size and all have en-suite bathrooms. Showers could be improved but are satisfactory. Could do with Sky for when the kids need to wind down a bit and iPod dock for ease of music selection in the evenings. This villa does not have air conditioning which wasn't really a problem but does not suit all. The Villa is a little far out for walks to the beach with small kids but is not impossible. The beaches are beautiful. We had the use of a car to get around especially for the supermarket. I hope this as seen as constructive as we really did enjoy our stay very much and all members of Destination Algarve have been really friendly, helpful, accommodating and professional...we would definitely use them again! Thanks!

What's not to like? Very simple arrangements and goo communication made booking and paying very easy. The apartment was lovely, with everything we needed. There's a steep hill up from town and the marina, but walking's good for you!
