Things to do

Golf:

The Algarve region is known for its golf courses, and Balaia has its own 9-hole course. It is located directly on the cliffs, providing players with some nice views. A driving range and putting green as well as a Gold Academy are also on site.

Praia da Maria Luisa:

This sandy beach is one of the two located in Balaia. It is quiet and secluded, though the beach bar located here is popular with tourists and locals alike. The surrounding cliffs provide a beautiful backdrop.

Misericórdia Chapel:

This chapel was constructed atop a former Arab mosque in the 15th century. The devastating earthquake in 1755 all but demolished the original structure and what visitors see today is a the reconstruction of the body and main doorway in the Gothic style.

Castle Walls:

Visitors to Balaia can see the remains of the original castle walls. The 1755 earthquake destroyed most of it, but the ruins of one of the towers can be found at the Rua Joaquim Pedro Samora. It served as the northern entrance to the city.

Xorino Cave:

This interesting natural formation is located on the beach, within the cliffs near Albufeira. It served as a hiding place for the fugitive Moors during the Christian Reconquest in the 13th century. Guided tours are available during high season.

Albufeira Strip:

The famous Avenida Dr. Fancisco Sa Carneiro, or 'strip' in Albufeira is the place to go for a night out on the town. It is located about two miles from Balaia. Many of the bars and clubs located here are open 24 hours a day, and there are numerous restaurants to choose from.

Stunning Villa

5 of 5
Our first stay at Balaia Golf in the Algarve. We loved it. The villa is amazing, as discribed by the owner. Air con in all three bedrooms which was a good thing has the tempeture was in the high 30's when we were there early September. One of the six pools onsite is just a stones through away from the villa which for us was great,. We could either sit around the pool or outside the villa and still have a view of the swimming pool. My two teenage sons played golf at Balaia, they loved it. Fabulous Beach nearby with-in walking distance. We decided not to rent a car and found public transportation taxi and buses to be convenient and reasonable priced. Balaia Golf grounds and pools immaculate. Staff very friendly and helpful. All I can say is that my family and I had a great vacation and the villa lived up to expectations. Would definitely book this villa again if we were to return to Balaia Golf.
