  • Stunning views, well maintained

We spent 5 nights in Palheiro Cottage, and found it a very comfortable place to stay. Everything was clean and in immaculate condition and the kitchen well equipped. Jenny was very helpful, promptly supplying two heaters and an electric blanket when it turned cold in the evenings, and we really appreciated the welcome pack, with home-made jam, eggs, and a bottle of wine. The cottage is well situated for the coast (a sheltered sea pool to swim in in Calheta) and Levada walks, and, being high up above the town, the views down to the sea are fantastic in all weathers. Although on a street with other houses the only noises to disturb us were those of barking and howling dogs. Parking is on-street, but there was never a problem finding a space. Our only problem really was the toilet, which cannot even manage toilet paper - we felt this meant it was not really fit for purpose.

Stayed here for 6 nights - two couples. Villa has everything you could need. Very quiet area (you get used to the church bells) and beautiful view. Restaurants and supermarket a 5 minute drive away. Good base to explore Madeira
