Quiet Charm

We wanted a slow, lazy week and Quinta da Ponte do Louro provided us with the ideal location. Even with two teens in tow it provided enough space for us all to relax in our own ways. The main accommodation is in the ground floor of an atmospheric old farmhouse and includes a wide paved courtyard and a well tended garden overlooking the pool. There is also a newer, smaller house next to the pool, containing a double bedroom and a spacious sitting room. We were invited to wander the farm and help ourselves to fresh veg and fruit - an invitation we couldn't refuse. Our hosts were welcoming but unintrusive and the couple who run the actual business of the farm were a source of information and valuable help. On the negative side, the kitchen was small though reasonably equipped. To the dismay of the teens, internet access was not available in the house but only near the pool (though we solved this 'problem' with local ingenuity). The property adjoins a busy main road and care is required when exiting the gates. Although there is a train station about a kilometre away, a car is essential. Within easy reach are the coast and the cities of Braga, Guimarães and Porto. The huge Thursday market at nearby Barcelos is well worth a visit. We loved it!

Excellent choice

We are three families that stayed at this property for a week. It is a beautiful villa, garden and swimming pool with a well equipped outside kitchen. The property owners are excellent, very professional and very hospitable. The area was quiet with small and large supermarkets, phamacy and small shops of a butchers and patisserie. We walked to the local bar one evening which was very friendly. This area of Portugal is very pretty and lots of places to visit around (car required). I would highly recommend this villa to families as there are plenty of things to do. I am sure that everyone who stays at Casa das Oliveiras, at Rates, Povoa de Varzim will have a fantastic time as we all did. Top marks for The owners Carlos and family.
