Make a holiday apartment in Altura Town your home away from home

Tucked away in the south-eastern reaches of Portugal in the Algarve region is a fairly developed town that hosts a selection of shops, restaurants and bars. Visitors touring Algarve usually put up in holiday homes in Altura Town, being drawn there by the fact that it is relatively unspoilt and tranquil. This location also puts them within easy reach of the Atlantic Ocean coastline where they can bask in abundant sunshine or indulge in any one of several water sports. Weather in Altura Town

Travel to Altura Town

The Faro Airport is the main gateway to the Algarve region and visitors flying in from outside the country will want to book flights that land here. While taxis and rental cars are easily accessible from the airport, they may be a bit expensive. There are buses, however, that can take holidaymakers over this 45-minute journey for less.

Nice location, nice house, but not great for families with small children off-peak

The property is in a great location - in rolling hills about ten miles from Tavira and is set in nice secluded grounds. It's generally clean and well-kept and wouild make a great quiet summer holiday. Unfortunately for us our stay coincided with unseasonably cold and wet weather; and the house is really hard to heat. The electric radiators are okay for heating up bedrooms, but the main dining/living room and kitchen area (which is huge) can only be heated using the log fire. These heating problems are compounded by two major issues with the property. If using the electric heaters at the same time as other electrical equipment (including the oven and the water which comes from a well) the whole house's electricity tends to cut out. It's easy to turn it back on, but it's a surprising deficiency in a holiday property, and is quite irritating when it happens frequently. Also the log fire's chimney vents via (presumably) a heat exchanger of some sort into the living/dining room and into one of the bedrooms; unfortunately there must be a leak somewhere in the heat exchanger, because both rooms were becoming very smoky - for this reason we were unable to use that bedroom (fortunately we found that we didn't need to as our children can now share a room; but we'd have been quite upset otherwise.

Very nice apartment

We arrived by lunchtime and were met at the apartment. Car parking is under ground. It is just a minute's walk from the resort front, so a great location. The apartment is very spacious and was spotlessly clean. Living / dining room, fully equipped kitchen and 3rd bathroom downstairs. Upstairs are 2 good sized bedrooms each with full en-suite. Separate air con in the living room and both bedrooms. Manual shutters on all exits to keep out the light and heat. Wifi was excellent, but downstairs only. Basic channels on the TV. Nice and quiet location. Narrow patio outside downstairs, with a table and 2 chairs. Large private rooftop terrace upstairs, wth table and 4 chairs. However, both serioulsy need some shade to be provided as it was just too hot in July to sit outside with absolutely no shade. Should also have a couple of recliner chairs on the rooftop terrace. Overall, thoroughly recommended.
