Second visit to Monte da Quinta with my husband and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time. We both love the peace and tranquillity at this time of the year, the views from the Casa, visiting and feeding the resident animals. Days seems to pass by doing hardly anything. A walk into the nearby town, a drink, people watch, late lunch on the terrace, more relaxing, reading, gazing at the scenery, dinner on the terrace, a game of cards (which we never do at home!). We did venture out to the beach one day, through the national park; wandered around the town adjacent to the beach, had a cool beer, lunch on the beach, walked on the beach. Perfect day really. Can't fault the Casa - like a home from home but in Portugal! Planning to go back again next year.

  • Monte da Quinta - A Little Bit of Paradise

Monte da Quinta is set down a very quiet country lane, just a ten minute walk from the picturesque small town of Castro Verda. It consists of two adjoining properties plus the owners' accommodation. We stayed in the smaller two bedroomed cottage, Casa Oliveira. What a delightful place! There are stunning views from every window and terraces on three sides all well equipped with comfortable chairs and loungers. The kitchen is extremely well equipped including a dishwasher although washing up was no chore admiring the lovely view of the town or watching the pigs snooze! There is a separate laundry room for both cottages. The two very comfortable bedrooms are both en suite. Everywhere is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. We chose Monte da Quinta for a week of peace, relaxation and a place to recharge the batteries and we were not disappointed! The grounds are full of olive and palm trees and beautiful shrub and the place is full of birdsong. There is also a small herb garden of which we made good use! There are plenty of places to sit and relax whether it be by the gorgeous pool, on the terraces, a very secluded shaded area or you could even try the hammocks. We enjoyed exploring the farm and feeding the animals. The owners, Michaela and Nigel, have made a fabulous job of renovating the farm and continue to use traditional methods. We loved having fresh eggs and honey and marmalade from their own bees. For more supplies, the town is easily accessible on foot. There are two supermarkets and a good selection of smaller shops and excellent restaurants. The Algarve is 40 minutes away by car and the nearest airport, Faro is just an hour's travel on an unbelievably quiet motorway! There are many attractions close by and our hosts had plenty of suggestions. Having the lovely Michaela and Nigel on hand is a real bonus for help and advice. They were the perfect hosts and not a bit intrusive. We had a fabulous week - the weather was perfect too - and we would recommend Monte da Quinta unreservedly.
