  • Superb Apartment with Amazing Views and Ideally Situated
    5 of 5

Our family of 4 decided to head to Lisbon for a mini break after the city was recommended to us by my brother and a uni-friend of my daughter's, so we had an idea it would appeal to parents and 'young adults'! We chose the apartment because it seemed to tick all the boxes. There was a terrace, good sized rooms, a dishwasher, and a superb view over the Tagus from the balcony. Perfect. We knew there would be stairs (the price to pay for the view) but unless you're really immobile or lazy, they're not a problem at all. Tania was very helpful during the run up to our visit, with advice on getting from the airport, offers of arranging a car etc. When we arrived she was at the apartment finishing the cleaning. Everything was spotless. After showing us around she gave us the run down on Lisbon, pointing out the transport hub where you can get the train or tram to Belem and beyond, the Time Out market with its superb food and recommended a few restaurants. She couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. What a nice lady. 1 point - there could have been more seating, although it wasn't an issue for us as daughter was in her room most of the time! The apartment is halfway up a hill next to the Bica funicular railway. It was a 5 minute walk down the hill to the afore-mentioned transport hub (where we picked up a taxi to the airport - very reasonable at approx 15 Euros). From there you can walk to the big squares (Praca de Commercio, Praca de Rossio etc, and sights such as the Castelo de Sao Jorge) easily. If you go up the Bica hill by the apartment you'll find lots of lively bars and restaurants and find the centre by a different route. I was a little concerned about the hilly nature of Lisbon as I have an old foot injury that flares up from time to time, but the hills weren't a problem at all. A trip across the river via the transport hub and then the 101 bus to Cristo Rei is well worth it. I'm not religious but it still felt special. You can see it from the apartment's balcony but when you get up close it's even more impressive. Also, take a trip to Belem for a host of attractions including the Monument to the Discoveries, the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monestary and of course the famous Pasteis de Belem (these were delicious but the Pasteis de Nata at the Time Out market were equally so and 10c cheaper!) The people were all super-friendly, including the cab drivers. All 4 of us loved Lisbon and I will be going back as we weren't there long enough.

  • Very good

Location was good. Kitchen was good with all the amenities except when we stayed the dishwasher did not work. Owner was courteous and communicated well prior to us arriving and met us on arrival and gave us all the details. Bedrooms were fair. The apartment is on the second floor and stairs to climb was very inconvenient. I would recommend that the owner atleast mentions this in the posting. Bathroom can be improved from a maintenance factor. Cleaner bath tub, better shelving for the towels, Kind of odd smell not fresh, and overall look of the bathroom. Bedrooms were fair but sheets could look presentable. It was summer and very hot but just one fan and no aircondition. Can have atleast 2 fans in the home.
