The traditional authentic charm of Dar Tiflet was enjoyable. Some lovely rest rooms courtyards, and roof tops to chill and relax.
The real strength though of Dar Tiflet was the team who run it. They make you feel very welcome and are extremely helpful.
Special thanks to Yassine who spoke good English and helped us in may ways with taxis, walking us the nearest Bank etc etc.
We have just returned from an amazing stay at Riad 'Dar Jawd'. It is a beautifully appointed property and very comfortable. The pictures show the quality of the finish, but it is far more spacious than it appears.
However lovely the accommodation, it is the people who contribute so much to the enjoyment of a holiday. Hasan, the housekeeper, gave us such a warm welcome with Moroccan mint tea and pastries when we arrived very late in the evening. He had prepared a traditional tagine with accompaniments as we had requested a meal due to the hour of our arrival, and he provided a delicious fresh breakfast for us each morning with Moroccan specialities. Hasan was charming, helpful and pleasant throughout our stay.
Mohamed drove us from the airport, arranging for our baggage to be taken via trolley to the door of the Riad as no cars can enter the narrow streets in the immediate area. He is a delightful person and incredibly helpful. On our last day he took us on an incredible trip up to the Atlas Mountains, organising a Berber guide called Abdel who led us on a trek up to the waterfalls and then took us to have a traditional couscous lunch at his family home in a small village on the mountain-side. This was a very special experience, at a very reasonable price.
Other highlights of our trip included walking for miles through the narrow streets of the Medina soaking up the atmosphere of the souks and the Kasbah, visiting the Place Jemaa el-Fnaa at night, walking through the cool and colourful Majorelle Garden, and experiencing a Moroccan hammam. We also treated ourselves to early evening cocktails at the splendid La Mamounia hotel, with its sumptuous interior and beautiful gardens.
Marrakech is an exciting and vibrant city with much to offer, the people are friendly and helpful, and it feels very safe (if you manage to avoid getting hit by one of the many mopeds that zip through the souks at quite a pace!). Riad ‘Dar Jawd’ is the perfect base – a huge thank you to JacquesPierre and Valerie.
