Holidaymakers looking for a good mixture of sun, historic sites and fun attractions in Central America may like to try Central Mexico. This fantastic area of the country offers so much for visitors to see and do. There are numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, condos, B&Bs and campsites.

Things to do on holiday to Central Mexico

Central Mexico has beautiful scenery in abundance with mountainous areas and the glorious countryside offering exciting walks and climbs. The area is very popular with cyclists and horse riders too. The region has many 9 and 18-hole golf courses especially in and around Mexico City as well as Morelos and Puebla. There are numerous lakes and rivers to try watersports such as sailing, water skiing, wind surfing and kayaking as well as swimming and fishing. Other activities available in the region include rock climbing, tennis, go-karting and mountain biking. All cities and towns have a good choice of bars and restaurants with numerous Mexican and American fast food chains to be found here. In addition to this, self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drinks from local stores and markets all over the region.

Places to visit on holiday to Central Mexico

Central Mexico features some fantastic historic cities that offer many places of interest, not least the capital Mexico City. Here there are many fabulous landmarks including the biggest cathedral in the Americas. The city also has the largest number of museums in the world with examples being the National Museum of Anthropology, Museum of Modern Art and the National History Museum. Families may also enjoy a fund day Chapultepec Park and Zoo or some of the lovely gardens in the city. Another city well worth visiting is Cuernavaca where tourists can see the Palace of Cortes, the Muros Museum or the Salto de San Anton waterfall. Puebla is about an hour and a half from Mexico City and also features some fine attractions such as the African Safari Park and the historic forts and cathedral.

Weather in Central Mexico

The temperatures in Central Mexico are warm throughout the year with average highs of 79 degrees Fahrenheit in April and May. The coolest months are December and January when the average high is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The rainy season is generally between May and September. Generally July is the wettest month with an average rainfall of 7.2 inches.

Travel to Central Mexico

Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) is approximately 15 minute’s drive from Mexico City. Flights arrive here from some international airports including Amsterdam (AMS), Frankfurt (FRA), London-Heathrow (LHW), Los Angeles (LAX), Madrid (MAD), New York (JFK), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) amongst others. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, National, Sixt and Thrifty are some of the car rental firms represented at the airport.
