Make a self catering villa or holiday rental in Luxembourg your home away from home

The tiny landlocked country of Luxembourg makes a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. From a holiday rental in Luxembourg, it is easy to pop over the border and visit Germany, Belgium or France. However Luxembourg has plenty of attractions of its own for visitors to enjoy. The national language is French for administrative purposes, German for commerce and a local dialect is widely spoken in daily life. The currency is the Euro.

Things to Do in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a delightful city for taking a guided walking tour. Head for the Old Town and see the changing of the guard at the Palais Grand Ducal. The twice-weekly market is worth a visit and shopping in the stores within the city centre of Luxembourg is a real pleasure. The Plateau du Kirchberg is home to Luxembourg’s biggest cinema complex and shopping mall. The city has many museums and galleries to visit and highlights are the National Museum of Natural History and the City Museum. The countryside in Luxembourg is popular for walking, hiking and rock climbing, especially in the scenic Ardennes region. Take a wine-tasting tour around the River Moselle region or visit the breweries at Diekirch and Wiltz.

Places to Visit in Luxembourg

The Old Town of Luxembourg is known as Luxembourg-Ville. The delightful cobbled streets, beautiful shops, fortress towers and underground tunnels ensure that there is something for every visitor to enjoy. The Notre Dame Cathedral, dating back to the 17th century, and the impressive Pont Grand Duchesse Charlotte Bridge are the main attractions. Beyond the city of Luxembourg, the north east of the country has some striking sandstone rock formations at Mullerthal. The town of Echternach, famous for its religious Whit Tuesday procession, has a 7th century Benedictine Abbey with a local museum and the St Willibrord Basilica is also worth exploring along with the 15th century Town Hall. For those who like old castles a trip to Vianden from your Luxembourg holiday rental is a must. The 11th century castle overlooking the town has a chairlift for easy access. Vianden also has a Wild Boar Sanctuary.

Weather in Luxembourg

Those staying in a self catering apartment in Luxembourg should expect the weather to be showery and cloudy at any time of year. Luxembourg has a temperate and mild climate with cool summers and chilly winters, apart from in the high peaks of the Ardennes where the weather can be severe. Temperatures average 23°C (73°F) in July but fall below freezing in the depths of winter.

Travel to Luxembourg

Luxembourg’s main airport is the Findel (LUX) International Airport which is 5km (3miles) northeast of the city. Flights from London take around one hour 20 minutes. Coaches and buses connect the airport with the main city centre and taxis are also available. The transfer takes 10-20 minutes. The Eurostar high-speed train is an easy way to reach Luxembourg from London via the Channel Tunnel with connections in Paris or Brussels.

Bright, airy apartment.

4 of 5
The second floor apartment was clean & comfortable and had all the equipment we needed to enjoy our stay. The apartment is in a small village & there is only a small cafe with a limited menu in the immediate vicinity. The closest restaurants we found was approximately 5km away but beware if you wish to walk there & back as the village is at the top of a steep hill.!! Whilst the village is quiet most of the time, the church bells rang every morning at 6 o'clock for approximately 5 minutes.
