Make a holiday rental property or accommodation on Kenya’s Coast, Africa your home away from home

The Kenyan Coast is a hidden piece of paradise, where the rich golden colour of the beaches compliments the dark blue of the sky and the green of the palm trees which provide the boundary between the beach and the mainland. All along the coast you can find unique symbols of European, African and Arabic cultures all of which make taking accommodation in Kenya’s coastal region even more atmospheric.

Things to do on holiday on the Kenya Coast

Safaris in Kenya are world famous, but you do not need to head deep into the countryside to see the best game. In fact, some of the largest wildlife reserves are in the coastal region, and if you are hoping to view some large game yet want to spend your holiday in Kenya in close proximity to the beach, you are in luck. The Tsavo National Park is a magnificent place to take a safari holiday in Kenya, allowing you to be back on the beach well before the end of the day.

It is the beaches which attract tourism to Kenya’s Coast. The golden, powdery sand which lines the coast stretches far into the horizon, backed by palm forests and lapped by the amazingly clear, warm waters of the Indian Ocean attract visitors in their droves. The beaches are not only a great place to sunbathe and relax, but the Indian Ocean also provides some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world. The marine parks of Watumu Bay, Malindi and Shimoni are home to completely unique habitats and animal species.

The waters of the Kenyan Coast are not fished commercially, meaning that fish can grow to extraordinary sizes. As a result, deep sea fishing for leisure has become famous as being quiet brilliant, and many people take accommodation in Kenya’s coastal region for this very reason.

The culturally orientated visitors to property in Kenya will be aware of the deserted ruins of Swahili coastal settlements which adorn the eastern coast of Kenya. Tourist information guides are very informative, meaning you can get a huge amount from a self-guided tour of Kenya’s ancient outposts.

Places to holiday on the Kenya Coast

Mombassa is Kenya’s oldest town, with a combination of ancient and modern. The twisting streets are filled with Arabic buildings, bazaars and antique shops, well worth visiting from holiday rental in Kenya.

The two most famous beach resorts, Malindi and Watamu are brilliant places to take self catering property in Kenya as they not only boast magnificent beaches, but the coral reefs just off shore are teeming with aquatic wildlife, much to the delight of divers and those with a snorkel.

Climate of Kenya’s Coast

Average annual temperatures are an amazing 28˚C, with temperatures rarely dipping below 21˚C. In summer, (during our winter), temperatures reach an average of 32˚C, during which time, the beaches and coastal waters of the Indian Ocean are an essential part of a holiday in Kenyan accommodation.

Amazing hidden small palace in the middle & reality of Ukunda, Kenya.

5 of 5
Overal, we had the most wonderul week in Ukunda, at the Sultansakahaus. Not only is the house a gem, but the staff whom we prefer to describe as now 'friends' made our stay very special. The combination of their care, attention and not to mention the fantastic chef Musa, who could compete with any of the big names - just made our week complete. We did a lot within the community and met many of the locals. The real Africa (we visited the beach for a couple of hours one day only). If anything, we were too busy to even enjoy the pool (would do more the next time for sure). I highly recommend this property. You feel welcomed & safe. There were just 2 of us, and it would be even much more fun with a family or another couple at least. Oodles of space and plenty to do in Kenya for the more adventurous as we were, or equally ideal for a family who perhaps does want to be pampered, and not move about too much by enjoying the house, the pool and whole experience. If you go to Africa, you will know what to expect. Use the locals and take in some education during your stay. Best way. We have surely left our hearts in Ukunda and I would love to return one day. It was a great week to reignite my love of Africa and the amazing African people. Thank you Katerina and Sam for allowing us to share your home and just a huge hug to Musa, Rose, Naomi, Jen, Said, Alex & King. You are all beautiful people. From Carole & Vincenzo, Milan.

Absolutely gorgeous property with the nicest host!

5 of 5
Our time in Lissa’s gorgeous home was beyond perfect. The house is right on the beach and can be accessed from a little door in the garden. The deck offers a stunning view of the sea and the cliffs around, as does the bedroom upstairs. The other bedrooms are a few steps away from this part of the house. These are large and airy rooms with big sit-outs that lead to the swimming pool. We spent a lot of time in and around the pool! The house is beautifully done up and has every comfort. I do not exaggerate when I say that it was terribly hard to leave Lissa’s piece of paradise and we’re already wondering when we can go back. The house is well-located in Malindi – close to the centre of town but away from the noise. It is useful to have a car there. What made our stay beyond perfect were the people. Lissa is warm and welcoming and ever so helpful! She has many interesting stories to tell and guided us about which shops to visit and where we could get groceries, etc. Sammy and Silas took such good care of us. We ate Sammy’s delicious meals every day and Silas made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Lissa’s many rescue cats and one dog mostly keep to themselves but it’s very nice to have them around and they only add to the warmth and welcoming of the place. Thank you Lissa and can’t wait to come back!
