Make a holiday apartment in Viddalba your home away from home

Near the Gulf of Asinara, Viddalba is an increasingly popular holiday destination located between Alghero and Olbia. This region of Sardinia is known for its beautiful pasture land and striking natural features. HomeAway has a good selection of holiday apartments in Viddalba to suit all tastes. They can sleep up to 7 people and are well furnished with great amenities like sea views and swimming pools. Viddalba holiday apartments are also very affordable in comparison to other parts of Sardinia. They are the ideal choice for a real get away from it all, relaxing holiday.

Things to do

The natural environment is Viddalba’s biggest draw. Along with beautiful beaches and charming villages, the region is home to mountains, gorges, lakes and thermal baths that attract thousands of visitors each year. Viddalba is also only an hour’s drive from Porto Torres, where it is possible to take ferries to Nice, Barcelona, and Genoa.

-The River Coghinas is a major river in Sardinia and a popular place for canoeing, boating, kayaking, and wildlife photography. Largely undeveloped and left as nature intended, it provides a beautiful pathway for exploring the interior of Sardinia. Riverboat tours travel up and down the river regularly, bringing visitors close to a wide variety of native herons and egrets.

-The Gorges of Coghinas delight hikers with its beautiful scenery. Forged by the river and formed from enormous pieces of pink granite, this region can also be explored on horseback. The area is full of plants and animals native to the island, and is an excellent spot for wildlife watching.

-Lake Casteldoria is an artificial lake not far from Viddalba holiday apartments and offers plenty of water-based activities. Facilities at the lake support sports like sailing, boating and canoeing. It is also possible to take part in a walking tour, or simply explore the area independently. The lake is a haven for local birds and is rich in native Sardinian plant life.

-At the Thermal Baths of Casteldoria the waters are supplied by an extinct volcanic source, which regulates the water temperature. A spa has been created to further enhance the effects of the baths, and visitors can now enjoy massages and spa treatments here in addition to benefiting from the soothing effects of the mineral-rich, health-enhancing water.

-The Museum of Perfuga is dedicated to civil archaeology and palaeontology of the region. Some of the fossils on display here date back 30 million years, and exhibits take visitors through the entire archaeological history of the area. The museums holds an impressive collection of flint stones and other artefacts from Neolithic inhabitants of Sardinia, as well as artefacts from the Bronze Age Nuragic civilisation.

Weather in Viddalba

Viddalba is hot and dry during the summer high season, with high temperatures often exceeding 30°C. This is an ideal time to book a holiday home in Viddalba if hitting the beach is your main aim. The months of April, May, September and October are the best times to visit for keen hikers and horse riders. Rain in the spring and fall is more prevalent, but still pretty infrequent.

Getting to Viddalba

Viddalba is located a little more than an hour from the airports in Alghero and Olbia. It is also just 55 km from Porto Torres, which is a popular port for ferries to and from Genoa, Nice and Barcelona. Car hire is available at both Alghero and Olbia airports, and are taxis. Once settled in your Viddalba holiday apartment, the easiest way to get around is by car.

Ein wunderschönes Haus mit sensationellem Ausblick

5 of 5

Beautiful and quiet spot for a holiday

5 of 5
Just returned from a lovely week at Villa Nuraghe. The villa is in an idyllic spot, very quiet and tranquil with only the faint, distant tinkle of cow bells to listen to. The local town of Perfugas has everything you need, both supermarkets are good, Crai is better if you want more recognisable brands but we used Eurospin mostly. The wine and cheese shops are a must! We also ate in the Pizzeria opposite Eurospin, fantastic pizza at a good price, takeaway and eat-in, but be warned they didn't take cards when we were there but there were plenty of cash points nearby. The beaches are lovely and we were often the only ones on them (we went mid sept so slightly out of season), our favourites were San Pietro and Badesi. The villa is spacious, the grounds extensive, you can find a shady or sunny spot somewhere whatever the time of day, also saw some lovely sunsets from the terrace. The villa and bedrooms stay very cool and the dining area outside is lovely, we BBQ'd most nights. The owner, Malcolm, has thought of everything in terms of facilities, utensils etc and was extremely helpful and responsive to any queries we had. For those that haven't been to Sardinia before it is vast! We took our bicycles and cycled most days. The villa is ideal for cyclists as there is plenty of secure storage and outside space, especially now that the additional accommodation is nearly complete. Sardinia is very hilly with little flat areas so you are up and down all day on some lovely sweeping roads. Some of the road surfaces were a bit bumpy but you just need to be selective about the road choices; the SS/SR roads seemed to be lovely smooth tarmac whereas the provincial SP roads were a bit more hit/miss. Nothing that Google maps/Street view cant help you with. The gradients are very consistent so less "rolling" than somewhere like Mallorca and some of the climbs are long but spectacular once you get to the top, especially around the wind farms. Generally we found the Italian drivers considerate although a little impatient at times but no worse than the UK and the roads are SO quiet once you get out of the towns that you barely see anyone else. The Sardinians are also a very friendly bunch & make you feel welcome everywhere. Our favourite cycle areas were around Castelsardo, Tergu, Badesi, Sedini, Nulvi, Tula and there is a really long (15km) climb from the lake at Tula up to Tempio which is a very scenic road and extremely quiet. All in all a fab 2 weeks!
