Wonderful place to stay

5 of 5
Our group of 8 had a wonderful holiday here at Castello Claves. Perfect spot to unwind, and also lots to see (by car) in the surrounding area. Easy walking distance to restaurants, but good facilities to self cater and eat on the picturesque balcony which benefits from the prevailing sea breeze. We stayed whilst it was very hot, however the castle was cool and didn't feel hot at all. Gardens and pool were magical with lots of sunny and shady spots and sun lounges. Our host Lilianna was wonderful. We will never forget this holiday!

Perfect villa for all ages

4 of 5
Our party of 8 ranged in age from 4 to 72 years old and we also needed somewhere that could accommodate some one with limited mobility. Villa Mareneve turned out to be perfect for our needs. The ground floor bedroom was easily accessible, although my mother in law was unsure about the only shower on this floor being in the utility/cloakroom. The other bedrooms upstairs were well appointed and gave us ample room for our needs. The 4 year old certainly made the most of having his own double bed with en-suite, choosing this over the small single room attached to his parents bedroom! The kitchen had an excellent supply of crockery, pots, pans and utensils. Outside the pool and gardens were wonderful, with views both towards the sea and Mt. Etna. The barbecue is some distance from the house, which makes it a little antisocial for those doing the cooking, but was otherwise excellent and provided us with 2 good meals during our week long stay. The owners were lovely and very helpful, especially Mara who helped one of our party find a doctor. On the first night we had asked them to cook us a meal which was delicious and enjoyed by all. Not criticisms, but points worth noting: Whilst the location was pleasant, it is not apparent from the owners description that the villa is quite close to another villa they also own and is partially overlooked by this other house. Whilst we were staying, there was a group of girls at this other villa, who weren't particularly noisy, but like all young people liked their music and would sometimes be quite loud on their return from a night out. So if you are looking for isolation and peace and quiet, this villa may not be for you. Also, there is no dishwasher. On reviewing the details of the property, there isn't one listed, so it was our own fault that this came as a bit of surprise. We were a relatively small group for this villa and if we found it tedious doing the washing up, I can imagine it being a nightmare for larger groups. Location wise, Santa Venerina does not have a lot to offer the tourist so be prepared to travel to see the sights. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Mareneve and had a very relaxing family holiday.
