Casa Amalia is part of a garden villa in Venere Azzure between Lerici and San Terenzo, both of which are lively, interesting and a good starting point for venturing further afield. There are private (expensive) beaches and public beaches which are free. The sea is clean and clear and the beaches are well maintained. This is where Italians have their holidays so tourist tat is minimal, prices are reasonable and everybody is just really friendly, helpful and charming. The villages of Porto Venere and the Cinque Terre are a boat or train ride away and are well worth a visit. Retrospectively I would advise boat one way and train the other if the weather is hot.
Casa Amalia itself and the apartment are delightful - well maintained, clean and well-equipped. Balconies and shuttered windows allow a flow of cooler air at night (essential for sleeping comfortably), canopies enable full use of both balconies and seating inside and out is comfortable and spacious. There is lots of cutlery, plates, dishes and pans, a full oven, large fridge, microwave and dishwasher. Beds are comfortable and there is plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. The pool area is well regulated and slightly away from the house, mostly in full sun in the morning with gradual shading until about mid-afternoon when it shaded for the rest of the day. The pool itself is a lovely size and depth, it is exceptionally clean and tidy and the mix of salt water means that there is less chlorine required. There is a hot shower for before and after your swim. Families should be aware that children are not allowed in the pool area unattended by an adult at any time and that due diligence is an absolute requirement.
Finally, and by no means least, Amalia and her husband are as kind, helpful and friendly as it is possible to be. Danni met us at the station in La Spezia, took us to the iperCOOP at Sarzana to do a big shop and took us on a whistlestop tour of some of the finest views on the coast before delivering us safely back to La Spezia for our return flight. Information provided is comprehensive and written in English.
From age 8 to 68, the four of us have had a truly wonderful holiday in a lovely place with exceptional hosts who simply understand what’s needed to make a good holiday great.
Our stay in the apartment was brilliant. When we arrived we was greeted by Livio and showed the apartment. It is a massive apartment and everything was spotlessly clean and well looked after. We spent a week there and apart from the very hot weather (we managed to get the hottest week, so far this summer) everything was brilliant. Livio and Nina are a very lovely couple and we enjoyed living above them very much. When we arrived there was cold water in the fridge and a big basket of wonderful and fresh fruit and after about 4 days of our stay, Livio brought us a beautiful self-made cake, which we enjoyed very much. The village of Arcola is very quiet but if you walk over to the other part of the Village, you can find a few very good restaurants, an ice cream parlor, a supermarket, pharmacy, bakers and a few little bars where you can have a drink and enjoy the typical Italian way of life. We can only recommend this apartment, since you are quiet near to visit places like La Spezia, Sarzana, Lerici, Pisa and of course the Cinque Terre and you also have a lot of beautiful beaches within 10 minutes' drive by car.
