Make a holiday rental home or villa in Velletri, Italy your home away from home

Nestled in the picturesque Alban Hills of Lazio, the comune of Velletri is part of the Rome province of Italy, and less than 40km from the famous city itself. The town and surrounding countryside are an important part of the local wine production industry, so is a great place to sample what the region has to offer. Art and history lovers will also be well at home in this town, which was painstakingly rebuilt after being heavily bombed during World War II.

Things to do in Velletri, Italy

Wine production is big business in Velletri, and you can see the processes in action by taking a winery tour. Organised tours are easy to sign up to, or you may decide to make your own plans and pick out a couple of top vineyards. Either way, plenty of samples can be enjoyed, and bottles of your favourites can be bought at bargain prices – ideal for taking back home as presents or for cracking open on a warm evening outside your Velletri holiday villa.

The old town dates back to around the 5th century, and there are a number of historical sites in the town centre that tell the colourful story of Velletri's history. The Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) is one such building, having taken over 150 years to complete since it was started in 1572, then having to be re-built in 1956 after being heavily bombed in World War II. Also worth a look are the 16th century oratory of Santa Maria del Sangue and the lofty campanile of Santa Maria in Trivio.

Places to visit on holiday in Velletri, Italy

When in Rome...visit Rome! Velletri is just 39km from the centre of the city, and if you pass up the chance to visit the world famous destination, you may regret it for years to come. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can do far worse than enjoy a trip to Trevignano Romano, a beautiful, rural village that is an hour away by car, on the opposite side of the province.

Weather in Velletri, Italy

July and August are the hottest months in which to visit Velletri, but mild winter temperatures mean that a holiday can be enjoyed here at almost any time of the year. If your main goal is avoiding the rain, the best bet is to visit between June and September, and avoid the back end of the year.

Flights to Velletri, Italy

The two Rome Airports – Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) both receive flights from the UK, but it is worth noting that the former is outside of the city itself and thus further away from Velletri – 64km compared to 24km. Budget airlines such as easyJet fly to Fiumicino, however, so if you are looking for a cheap way of getting to Velletri it may be the best bet.

VERY NICE, WELL EQUIPPED, SPACIOUS

4 of 5
I ENJOYED MY STAY AT GUILIANO AND NADIA"S APARTMENT. IT IS SITUATED IN A LIVELY RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE APARTMENT IS ON THE THIRD FLOOR OF THE BUILDING. VERY WELL EQUIPPED AND WITH SERIOUSLY GOOD WIFI. A LITTLE FURTHER OUT OF CENTRE OF ROME THAN I HAD HOPED BUT I LIKE TO BE INDEPENDENT OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND NEEDED TRANSPORT FROM THE APARTMENT. TRANSPORT TO TERMINI VERY GOOD BY BUS AND LOCAL TRAIN. THE METRO IS ABOUT A KILOMETRE AWAY AND THAT GOES THROUGH THE CENTRE. ONLY MET GUILIANO ON ARRIVAL WHERE HE GUIDED ME THROUGH THE NECESSARY INFORMATION BUT NADIA WAS IN TOUCH BY EMAIL DURING MY (ALMOST) FOUR WEEK STAY ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE EASILY CONTACTABLE. LEFT SOME PROVISIONS FOR MY ARRIVAL WHICH WERE VERY APPRECIATED. A VERY NICE COUPLE AND EASY TO APPROACH. I WOULD STAY AGAIN. MARY B

My son and I stayed at this flat for three nights for a short notice city break in Rome. What we wanted was somewhere good value within easy reach of the tourist sights that wasn't right in the middle of things. This apartment was just the job for us. - Clean and well maintained - Easy reach of the tourist sights via tram or underground - Excellent communication and support from the owner. - Good local restaurants

Best Holiday Villa Ever!

5 of 5
We have just come back from the most fantastic two week holiday at this amazing villa. We are a family of four with teenage boys aged 16 and 13. This villa had everything we needed and more. It is set in the most beautiful, peacful location with stunning views everywhere you look. It is well placed for catching the train into Rome and Naples and is approximately a 45 minute drive away from the beautiful beaches the region has to offer. We cannot praise Primetta and Stefano, the villa owners, highly enough. Whatever we say will not do justice to their kindness, generosity, attentiveness and helpfulness! We arrived to a fully stocked kitchen and Primetta showed us around the immaculate, well-kept villa. She orientated us regarding local amenities and even had a print out of the times of trains into Rome/Naples. All of their attention to detail meant we could thoroughly relax and enjoy our holiday right from the very start. The private pool is easily the biggest, cleanest and best pool we have ever had at a holiday villa and we spent many happy hours relaxing in/around it. We fell in live with Sermoneta, the medieval village on top of the hill opposite. We felt like we experienced the "real" Italy there with it's restaurants, ice cream shops and cobbled streets. My husband made use of one of the bikes there in the early morning, before the temperatures reached their hottest. We had many relaxing meals in the villa grounds using the the barbecue, overlooking Sermoneta, amongst the olive, fig, walnut, quince and hazelnut trees. We would thoroughly recommend this property and Primetta and Stefano as hosts- we were very sad to leave them at the end of our stay.
