Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Varese, Italy your home away from home

In the north-west of Lombardy and 55km north of Milan is the province of Varese, the capital of which is the city of the same name. It is the lakes and mountains that draw visitors to this area, with the idea of relaxing with a drink to an Alpine backdrop or trying their hand a range of winter sports too hard for many people resist. Consider a rustic holiday home or mountain-view apartment in Varese for your next vacation or short break.

Things to do in Varese, Italy

The province of Varese is split into 141 communes, meaning plenty of different towns and villages to explore. This also means plenty of variety for a holiday in Varese. Whether you prefer a relaxing beach holiday, a wine tasting tour, a boating break along the rivers of Varese, a winter sports holiday or a week of experiencing traditional Italian towns and villages, this region has something to offer.

Places to visit on holiday in Varese, Italy

Varese can be divided into four regions, of which the Lake Maggiore area has the most holiday rental accommodation. It is the eastern part of the lake that lies in Varese, with the northern end extending 13 kilometres into Switzerland. Many visitors to this region opt to stay in Maccagno Superiore, a peaceful town that perfectly sums up this serene area.

The glacial Lake Lugano sits between Lakes Como and Maggiore, and also attracts its fair share of visitors. Running alongside the lake are a number of traditional towns and villages, many of which are home to historic churches and monuments. This area also has some of the key tourist attractions in Varese, which mainly come in mountainous form.

Sesto Calende and Viggiu are two other destinations to consider. The former is a commercial and industrial centre that has tourist facilities, good restaurants and a 9th century Romanesque church, whilst the latter is smaller, quieter and ideally located in the heart of the region.

Weather in Varese, Italy

Lombardy is renowned for its continental climate, and Varese in no different. Expect summer temperatures to peak at around 28C during July and August, and December, January and February to be cold enough for snow fall and a full range of winter sports.

lovely apartment

5 of 5
Really lovely apartment, we stayed for 2 weeks with 2 children and our dog. Dumenza is pretty and very close to Luino (amazing market every Wednesday). Meccagno has a great beach and again, not far from Dumenza. Lots of information sent to us by the owners and we used it well - thank you! The apartment hasn't got a washing machine, but there is a launderette in Maccagno, so no problem even if you are staying with messy children. We had an amazing time, loved the area and will definitely return!

Idyllisch gelegenes originelles, schön umgebautes Haus auf Hügel oberhalb Iskra

5 of 5
Herzlichen Dank an Enrica
