Make a holiday rental home or villa in Varese Ligure, Italy your home away from home

At just 70km from Genoa and less than three hours drive of the French border, Varese Ligure is a well-positioned destination near the beautiful south coast of Italy. Despite its close proximity to big cities, however, you should not be confused into thinking that Varese Ligure is a busy tourist town. It is in fact a small, rural village hidden away in the masses of dense forest that dominate the Liguria region, making it in ideal hideaway for those seeking a relaxing break.

Things to do in Varese Ligure, Italy

Peace and tranquillity are big priorities in Varese Ligure, with the village ticked away in the lush forest that covers the region. Many visitors head to this rural part of Italy simply to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet of their holiday or apartment, making the most of their new-found surroundings.

The town itself is dotted with red-roofed buildings, many of which house traditional business purveying local produce. Cheeses are especially important in this part of Italy, and you can consume these with any combination of the crusty breads, hand-made pastas and delicious wines also sold in the village. Tuesday is market day in Varese Ligure, and the place to purchase fresh fish and much more, but a number of restaurants can also be found in the village centre, should you prefer to let someone do the cooking for you.

The Alta Val di Vara National Park is just a short distance from Varese Ligure, and is another destination where you can enjoy the natural surroundings and get away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Walking, hiking and horse riding are just some of the activities on offer here, with a number of well laid-out tracks to follow.

A month on a hill

5 of 5
Arrived at 2.30am up a dirt track 3/4 the way up a hill, a few lights on around the villa.... It looked nice but we were very tired .. As we were about 8 hours early after our drive from north Yorks we decided to have a little nap.... Whilst walking the dogs we were greeted by an elderly man asking ..in Italian.. What we wanted... When we told him that we were the couple and two dogs that had booked the villa for a month he quickly parked his car and opened the gates to the villa... He showed us around the place explaining where everything was inc the heating...lol He was very pleasant and gestured to let him know if there was anything else he could do for us.... We got unloaded and had a quick look around outside on the terrace and gardens... The views are wonderful ! The villa is set high up a hill over looking the village of castiglione chiavarese of which you have a great view, and of the valley too...we were very impressed... The terrace was very large and even though it was November we managed a few days sunbathing on it ! We did not get chance to use the pool but there is one with fantastic views. The villa itself is neatly set out with a double and a twin, the double being è suite. The village is about 30 mins walk or a 5min drive down a twisting steep hill... It's a great place for a tranquil stay, read a few books and relax which is exactly what we booked it for... We used it has a base to visit Pisa Lucca Florence and Sestri Levante amongst other smaller places..... Access to the motorways is about 15mins and the shops less than 10.. It was great for us as we went to relax but some may find it a little too quiet...and remote.... The owner, Chiara was very accommodating bringing the wifi dongle around on the first day and explaining where to get all the essentials etc..even bringing water around when some essential works were being done on the supply feed..... We would definitely stay again if we were in the region. We saw the elderly gentleman quite a bit.... It was chiaras father..Giorgio he tended his garden nearly every day so we exchanged pleasantries regularly... They are wonderful hosts... Even giving us some of their own olive oil, tomatoes and some limoncello! .and we made them a Leporati Lasagne !.. All in all we had a great time..theres only a couple things are the kitchen is small...I am a chef and not a small one lol ..and no English speaking channels on the tv for those rainy nights....many thanks to Chiara and Giorgio.
