Things to do

-Nature Close by is Lago di Fabbrica, which lies nestled in forest-clad hills. It’s a fantastic spot for a stroll, but is also the starting point for a designated trail to Sambuco, taking in dense forest with centuries-old oak trees and vibrant birdlife, including kestrels and hawks.

-Local history It’s fair to say that there’s fascinating history to be discovered during your holiday in Valfabbrica. The village is beautiful, with narrow streets and ancient stone buildings, and like the other settlements in the commune, including Castello di Coccorano and Sambuca, dates to the 1200s.

-Culture The towns of Assisi and Perugia are both within an easy drive of Valfabbrica and feature numerous monuments from the middle ages, such as Perugia’s spectacular Cathedral of San Lorenzo, which contains a section of the city’s Roman wall. Assisi has long been a major religious centre, and the Romanesque Basilica of St. Francis is an undoubted highlight.

-Outdoor activities If you have a passion for adventure then you could walk the course of the nearby river, Rio Grande. It’s one of many great options for an excursion close to Valfabbrica holiday villas, and boasts spectacular gorge, as well as plant life rare for the area thanks to a totally unique microclimate.

-Gastronomy Known for its soups and stews, Umbrian cuisine is famously rustic and meaty, based on ingredients sourced locally. Olive oil produced here is prized for its high quality, while truffles, both white and black, grow throughout the region and play a big role in a variety of dishes, from appetisers to pasta dishes involving umbricelli and strangozzi.

Weather in Valfabbrica

Valfabbrica holiday apartments are found in a region with a humid subtropical climate, bringing warm conditions in the summer and relatively cool winters. The warmest weather arrives in July and August, when temperatures get up to 30 degrees and rainfall is rare. May, June and September conditions are also warm, with highs that consistently reach the mid-20s. In winter low temperatures tend to linger just around freezing for around three months, with daily highs that usually just reach double figures.

Travel to Valfabbrica

Perugia Airport (PEG) sits no more than 20 minutes southwest of Valfabbrica, and can be reached from abroad via London and Brussels, as well as domestically via Milano-Malpensa. Perugia is also on the Foligno-Terontola railway line, which runs down Italy’s spine, connecting Florence with Rome. The major roads passing through the area are the E45 and A1, which interconnect at Perugia. It’s also possible to catch a private bus from Rome’s Fumicino airport and take the three-hour journey to Perugia.

Amazing and beautifully restored farmhouse in perfect location - don't miss it!!

5 of 5
This house is fantastic. It is only a few minutes from a supermarket, butcher and homemade pasta shop but nestled in the hills you feel as if you are away from everyone and everything!! It is perfect! Beautifully restored with a magnificent swimming pool, outdoor cooking and dining area; we enjoyed barbecues and making pizzas. We went to Assisi and nearby hilltop villages and spent a lot of time enjoying the house and the pool and the beautiful rural landscape. The sunrises and sunsets were wonderful. There are lots of places to visit nearby and we enjoyed a very special meal at Borgomela. Matteo is a great host. Our only regret was we were only there for 4 days!!! We will stay longer next time! Thanks Matteo!

The most perfect Umbrian retreat

5 of 5
We booked this house for our family to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday, and it was absolutely fantastic. There were 19 of us ranging from 1 year old - 87 year old, with all sorts of children and grandchildren in between, and there was plenty of room for all of us, and facilities to suit all. The 10 bedrooms accommodated everybody comfortably. The two very very long tables in both the kitchen and the garden meant that we could all sit and eat together. The kitchen was very well equipped. The basement with a table tennis table, and a full sized billiard table, as well as a petanque court meant the teenagers were never bored. The swimming pool is fantastic. It is big enough to have a proper swim, and is deep enough to dive from the diving board. There are plenty of loungers to accommodate everyone. The house is set in large grounds, so you never feel you are disturbing people, and is full of surprises such as swings, a playhouse, and a football pitch. There were supermarkets and bars all close by (a 5 minute drive away). And the most amazing local butcher. We had some Italian friends come over for a BBQ on the Saturday to celebrate the birthday, and they said they would be returning to that butcher as the meat was so good. From the moment I booked, Francesca communicated with me very promptly and was always very accommodating to all my questions. She was there with her sister to meet us, and gave us a tour of the house and told us the history of the house. It felt privileged to be allowed to stay in this family home that is obviously very loved. Our whole group had such a lovely time staying here that we all felt quite low on our first day back in England. I would thoroughly recommend staying here, and can't wait to return. In fact, this was not my first choice when booking, but the house I originally tried to book would not allow us to stay for only 3 nights. I am so pleased because we would never have discovered this wonderful house.
