Make a holiday rental home or villa in Turin, Italy your home away from home

The historic, vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Turin is a hugely popular destination for tourists, and offers plenty for visitors throughout all seasons of the year. Summer is filled with days of exploring the ancient city centre, visiting its museums and restaurants and admiring its architecture, whilst winters are usually spent on the slopes of the site of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Torino (as the Italian’s call it) really does have something for everyone, and can be firmly regarded as one of the jewels of northern Italy.

Things to do in Turin, Italy

‘Turin breaks’ are famous the world over, and this degree of recognition does not come for no reason. The city is an expanding and bustling hive of European culture, and has attractions and amenities that could fill several months of holiday time, let alone a single week or two.

Purchasing a city map and heading out on a walking tour is a great way of getting to know the area and easing yourself in to the Italian way of life. The old city has a great number of historic landmarks, with maybe the most recognisable of them all being Palazzo Madama, an imposing 15th century castle that is fronted by a grand facade. The Palazzo Madama houses the City Museum of Ancient Art, which displays a rare collection of artefacts from the ancient kingdom of Gandhara, amongst other interesting exhibits. Many more museums, cathedrals, churches and palaces can also be seen around the city.

In terms of modern attractions and amenities, Turin also has plenty. As you would expect in a settlement of around a million residents, almost every eating and drinking option imaginable can be enjoyed in the area, ranging from fast food takeaways to exclusive Italian restaurants that will provide an unforgettable dining experience. Shopping and sporting options are also top-notch, and far too numerous to list in this single article.

Turin does not close down when the weather gets cold – far from it. The city hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the excellent skiing and snowboarding facilities remain open to the public. Most of the winter sports venues lie to the west of the city, high up in the mountains.

Places to visit on holiday in Turin, Italy

Outside of the city centre are several smaller towns and villages, including the principal ski resort of Sestriere (103km). A Turin holiday can also provide the ideal opportunity to explore the remainder of the Piedmont region, but with so much to see and do in the city; it can be hard to find the time!

Weather in Turin, Italy

Turin has a humid sub-tropical climate, with summer temperatures usually between 25C and 30C. Spring and early autumn are extremely pleasant times to visit if you are planning an active sightseeing trip, whilst winter months are all about skiing, with temperatures quickly plummeting towards the zero mark.

Flights to Turin, Italy

Turin travel is easy to arrange from the UK. The city has its own airport (which is sometimes referred to as Caselle Airport), and typing the three-letter code ‘TRN’ into a flight search engine should bring up an array of options from British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair amongst others. Flight time from the UK to Turin can be as little as one hour on a good day.

Host was responsive and spoke great English. Beds were comfortable. Appartment was well equipped and large enough for four of us. With lots of light and nice cityscape from terraces.

PERFECT!

5 of 5
Francesco is a great guy, shown us around and gave us lots of information on the city as well as a few laughs! The property is comfortable for 8 people, very spacious with tall ceilings and most importantly great showers. comfortable beds with lots of fans because it was extremely hot in Turin! The terrace is very spacious and with a great view and a table to sit and eat breakfast. Very stylish apartment, I enjoyed the art. The apartment is very close to supermarkets, bars, a great patisserie and a market with lots of fresh fruit and veg and pizza. The apartment is a short walk to the tram stop into Turin and close to a taxi point. Very handy if you need to go somewhere particular or the airport. The locals are friendly and the area is perfect for everything you could need! The market is great, food is great, what a wonderful city and a great residential area. It's lovely to see how the locals live. We didn't want to go home! Thank you for accommodating us, the apartment is one of the highlights of our trip! Best wishes! Lauren
