Make a holiday villa in Tolentino your home away from home

If you’re looking for the ideal holiday villa in Tolentino then HomeAway can help you in your search. This picturesque town sits between the Apennines and the Adriatic, in a landscape of tall, rolling hills and tranquil farmland. Tolentino holiday homes are full of rural character – a number of them are restored stone farmhouses boasting lots of space, both indoors and in the large grounds that surround them. But modern luxuries aren’t neglected here – in your hunt for the perfect holiday home in Tolentino you could specify guest facilities like Internet, private pools or outdoor barbecues.

Things to do

-Local history. Like many of the towns in the region Tolentino has volumes of history, beautiful renaissance heritage and some must-see landmarks. Seek out the Basilica di San Nicola for its breathtaking 14th Century frescoes. A little way outside the town is the Abbey of Chiavalle di Fiastra, one of le Marche’s most beautiful monastic sites, with a blend of Romanesque and gothic architecture.

-Coast. The Adriatic is an easy drive to the east, and offers a gorgeous beaches and a variety of family-friendly resorts. One of the closest is Civitanova Marche, serving as both a stylish coastal town with an expansive coarse sandy beach and a port for the traditional fishing industry. Activities and amusements on offer here include mini-golf, tennis and a range of water sports.

-Nature. Tolentino is a few kilometres away from the northern edge of the Monti Sibillini National Park, which protects a section of Italy’s Apennine mountain range. Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or just in search of a gentle day outdoors, you’ll find hiking and biking trails here, in a remarkable landscape of formidable peaks, fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls.

-Food and drink. One of Le Marche’s best known dishes is brodetto, a soup containing a medley of fish species and seasoned differently from province to province. In the rural interior, meat is a staple, in the form of roast suckling pig, mutton and lamb, while many dishes here also feature locally grown truffles and mushrooms.

-Fermo. The handsome town of Fermo is well worth the short drive east – in centuries gone by it was the regions’s most important town, and vestiges from this time include the lavish Duomo, from the 1200s and the lovely Piazza del Popolo, a grand square enclosed by impressive secular buildings and palazzi from the 1500s.

Weather in Tolentino

The hilly scenery around Tolentino means that winter temperatures here are a little lower than on the coast a few kilometres to the east, but summers are still consistently warm. June, July, August and September all get daily highs above 25 degrees, and there’s also abundant sunshine, especially in July. Winters are moderately cool, with temperatures dropping below freezing at night in December and January, but getting up to ten degrees or more by day. Summer is the driest season – autumn, winter and spring all get around eight rainy days per month.

Travel to Tolentino

If you’re heading for your Tolentino villa from the UK, then the closest airport is Ancona Falconara (AOI), which is located about 45 minutes north of the town. There are also budget connections to a handful of other cities in Italy and Europe. To reach Tolentino from the airport you can take the A14 autostrada along the coast, before cutting inland on the SS77, which takes you all the way there. Tolentino is also on the rail-line connecting Fabriano to the northwest, with the Adriatic Railway at the Civitanova Marche on the coast. By changing at Fabriano you can also get to Tolentino by train from Rome.

An Oasis With Breathtaking Views

5 of 5
From the moment we parked our car, smelled the wonderful country air, sidestepped the abundant lavender and entered the courtyard of 'Casa Menta' taking in the view that never stopped to amaze us, we knew we would spend three weeks of heaven in this magical place. The photographs do not do it justice. The house is full of charm and very tastefully furnished. The kitchen is spacious with all the modern amenities, including a Nespresso machine and a pantry that was so well stocked when we arrived, I was speechless. For people who have difficulties with stairs, the house might be a challenge since there are three floors and some steep steps. We were definitely very happy to have one of the three toilets (2 are on the third floor) on the first (ground) floor. The outdoor dining area is absolutely lovely and the sitting area just outside the kitchen is cool during the hottest hours. The pool is located below the house and is reached via a walkway with several steps in a couple of minutes--the location is beautiful and very private. Sant'Angelo in Pontano, the little town just a few minutes drive away provides all the necessities--we especially loved the COAL Supermarket. The Internet functioned flawlessly the entire time and the housekeeper Patrizia who lives close by was always available but very mindful of our privacy Anyone who is looking for a quiet, restful vacation away from it all--this is the place.

Peaceful setting, amongst glorious views, surrounded by wildlife.

5 of 5
Arrival at the Villa prompts a moment's pause to soak in the idyllic location of a very private setting. The nearest Town is just a 10 minute drive away, but the villa is on a tranquil hill with great views of the countryside and only the sounds of birds and cicadas. The house itself is well equipped and the pool and garden are well looked after. There was a welcome hamper in the kitchen when we arrived and the host was easily contactable throughout our stay and sorted out a minor issue with the water straight away. The house and garden were spacious enough to cater for 5 adults and two children, especially as the layout of the house allows for a level of privacy between bedrooms. The wildlife is especially great, including fireflies, cicadas and swallows in the garden; and hares, sheep, wild boars and a peacock on the surrounding hills. Would definitely recommended this place to anyone wanting to experience the real Italy.
