Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Terni, Italy your home away from home

Terni Province is the smaller of the two provinces which makes up Umbria, Italy. Terni, the capital of the province of the same name, was largely flattened during WWII, and was reborn as a lively industrial centre. Tourist with many different interests will be hugely entertained during a holiday in a Terni property, from those with an interest in Italy’s long and varied past to those with a love of the great outdoors.

Things to do on holiday in Terni, Italy

There is a remarkable artistic and historical heritage in Terni Province which can be seen throughout the settlements of the area. Regardless of which Terni villa or apartment you rent, you will be able see many impressive monuments dating from every era since the Romans occupied the region. The most impressive monument in Terni is indisputable though; the Marmore Waterfalls, a staggering work of Roman hydraulics makes for essential viewing from Terni accommodation. The Roman ruins along the Via Flaminia are well worth investigating too, especially Carsulae.

Water sports fans will already know of the beautiful Lake Piediluco, which is the home of the Italian National Rowing Centre due to the ideal climatic conditions which it is blessed with. Those wishing to relax in canoe, try sailing or test their windsurfing skills during their holiday in Terni must head to Lake Piediluco, as there is nowhere better suited to these sports! Fishing is also a hugely popular activity in the area, as you can catch perch, tench, pike, eels and coregone whilst taking in the remarkable natural scenery.

Walking in the undulating countryside is a wonderful experience, with huge swathes of completely untouched land open to walkers. There are walking guides to Terni available from the Terni tourist information office, and after a long day walking, there are plenty of Terni restaurants in which to recuperate!

Places to visit on holiday in Terni, Italy

The medieval town of Acquasparta has an authentic and laid back atmosphere, and makes a wonderful place to take a Terni accommodation for those wishing to explore the region to its fullest. In the town itself, the Palazzo Cesi, a Renaissance masterpiece, takes much of the plaudits from visitors, and is well worth investigating from any Terni accommodation in the area.

Just a few miles away, the tiny town of Otricoli is missed by many tourists in the area, but those who do make it are often amazed by the disproportional amount to see and do here. Perched on a hill in the deep south of Terni, Otricoli serves as an open air Roman museum, with some of the most interesting exhibits being carved graffiti in the Roman walls of the main square.

Narni, at the southern tip of Terni, is also perched high in the hills, easily defended from the armies which historically roamed the region. The old fort and the Roman bridge over the River Nar are two of the most impressive sights, but there is much to explore from a Terni holiday rental in Narni.

Weather in Terni, Italy

This part of Italy is blessed with a wonderful climate which makes holidays at any time of year a real treat. Summers are long and hot, with evenings which seem to last for ever. Average temperatures in July and August stay above 25°C, with daily peaks around 32°C. Winters are short and mild, with average temperatures of around 12°C.

Travel to Terni, Italy

The closest airport to any accommodation in Terni is the international airport in Perugia (PEG), which serves the whole of Umbria. Ryanair provides cheap, direct flights to Tarni via Perugia Airport, which is located 95km from the centre of the province. There are many train stations in the area, which are served by the line from Rome, which offers another great option for reaching a self catering Terni holiday rental villa or apartment.

Stunning location, views and pool.

4 of 5
Amazing views and pool. Villa very clean and pool cleaned four times in our 2 week stay. Spacious villa internally and outdoor space giving both sun or shade throughout the day. Terrace is a lovely space to eat. Disappointed at lack of some essentials such as wine glasses (in Italy?), there were plenty of tumblers but no wine glasses, we bought and left a pack of three. The kitchen is functional but could do with a bit more rationalising of equipment ie loads of frying pans and only one saucepan. No washing up liquid (5 dishwasher tablets only), no basic condiments whatsoever which meant buying whole new packs of everything. Not that it bothered us, but the DVD player provided is not connected to the TV and there was no cable. Furthermore when a DVD player is provided one would assume that a few DVDs would be available should anyone require them. A good villa, which could be an outstanding with the addition of a few more thoughtful touches.

Beautiful property, great location, comfortable apartment

5 of 5
Santa Maria is a stunning property in a beautiful & quiet location ideally situated for Orvieto. The apartment was comfortable & well equipped. The owners were most helpful & pleasant. We loved their collection of animals: 2 friendly dogs & an assortment of cats & peacocks. We also enjoyed being able to pick vegetables from the owner’s garden. The swimming pool was wonderful. A very enjoyable stay.
