Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Taranto, Italy your home away from home

Located on the ‘inside of the heel’ of Italy, or in south west Puglia, the province of Taranto is a rural province boasting a magnificent sandy coastline on the Ionian Sea. The countryside is largely agricultural, dotted with beautiful castles, fortresses and stately villas. Taranto is known on the tourist map for two main reasons; the beaches and the exceptional food in Taranto which is among the best quality in Italy.

Things to do on holiday to Taranto, Italy

The Ionian coast of Taranto, Italy, is wonderfully unspoilt, with wild stretches of dunes, interrupted only by rock outcrops. The waters of the Ionian Sea are known as the “Seven Colours Sea”, due to the magnificent changing colours of the clean waters. The sands along the Taranto coast are impossibly soft, and the sheltered, clean beaches are perfect for family holidays with small children. Snorkelling is an enchanting activity in the Taranto area, as the Ionian Sea teems with marine life. There are plenty of spots along the Taranto coast for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing, as well as scuba diving and deep sea fishing.

The food in Taranto is quite exceptional. Seafood is a real speciality in Taranto, and there are a huge number of excellent seafood restaurants throughout the region, many of which are family run, traditional Italian eateries. There are a huge range of traditional dishes to try in Taranto, ingredients for which can be seen growing on the sun baked slopes of the southern hills, and are readily available from local weekly markets if you would like to try your hand at preparing traditional food in Taranto accommodation.

Places to visit on holiday to Taranto, Italy

Campomarino is a fantastic region of beaches on the coast of Taranto, Italy. With little sandy beaches sheltered by rock outcrops, Taranto villas in Campomarino are ideal for family beach holidays, and after a day on the beaches, the small restaurants offer a sublime meal, especially if you try the local fish dishes, washed down with the famous wines of the area, including Panzerotti, Primitivo di Manduria and Orecchiette.

San Pierto in Bevagna is a wonderful beach town, which so far has been completely uninfluenced by the onset of tourism in the region. With long, white sandy beaches and plenty of bars, restaurants and shops to explore, as well as tennis courts, and plenty of water sports including wind surfing, sailing and scuba diving.

Martina Franca is a charming town set high on the last of the hills of southern Italy. The old town centre is a delightful example of baroque architecture. Martina Franca is a fantastically traditional place to take a self catering Taranto property, with beautiful houses, traditional trulli and elegant churches surrounding the town.

A wonderful stay for our young family

5 of 5
We have had a wonderfully relaxing two week stay in this beautiful trulli. We went with our two young children and my parents rented Trullo Della Selva Piccolo which is just up the hill. This was a brilliant arrangement as we had our own pools and space, but we were in waving distance. Both trulli are beautifully appointed and well kitted out. Everything we needed for the baby was provided (travel cot, change mat, baby bath, baby bouncer, washing machine!). The small lane that connects the trulli was filled with wild flowers and was wonderfully quiet. We loved exploring the local towns (Martina Franca our favourite) and the zoo safari in Fasano was brilliant for our 4 year old. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Lovely holiday in a peaceful setting

5 of 5
The villa is well equipped with excellent amenities and beautiful surroundings but with easy access to main road network. Being built of stone, we found the villa lovely and cool for sleeping so no need for air-con. The Villa is some 3.5km from Martina Franca which is bustling 'city' with an interesting old town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Midway between the Adriatic coast and the Mediterranean coast there is a wide choice of beaches (mostly sandy) and we chose which side to visit based on Saverio's helpful comments ... windy days, choose the Med side, still days, choose the Adriatic side. We also visited some of the nearby towns and attractions e.g Alberobello, Locorotondo, Castella Grotto. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay for those who want a mix of sightseeing and relaxing days. Car hire is a MUST.
