Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Taranto, Italy your home away from home

Located on the ‘inside of the heel’ of Italy, or in south west Puglia, the province of Taranto is a rural province boasting a magnificent sandy coastline on the Ionian Sea. The countryside is largely agricultural, dotted with beautiful castles, fortresses and stately villas. Taranto is known on the tourist map for two main reasons; the beaches and the exceptional food in Taranto which is among the best quality in Italy.

Things to do on holiday to Taranto, Italy

The Ionian coast of Taranto, Italy, is wonderfully unspoilt, with wild stretches of dunes, interrupted only by rock outcrops. The waters of the Ionian Sea are known as the “Seven Colours Sea”, due to the magnificent changing colours of the clean waters. The sands along the Taranto coast are impossibly soft, and the sheltered, clean beaches are perfect for family holidays with small children. Snorkelling is an enchanting activity in the Taranto area, as the Ionian Sea teems with marine life. There are plenty of spots along the Taranto coast for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing, as well as scuba diving and deep sea fishing.

The food in Taranto is quite exceptional. Seafood is a real speciality in Taranto, and there are a huge number of excellent seafood restaurants throughout the region, many of which are family run, traditional Italian eateries. There are a huge range of traditional dishes to try in Taranto, ingredients for which can be seen growing on the sun baked slopes of the southern hills, and are readily available from local weekly markets if you would like to try your hand at preparing traditional food in Taranto accommodation.

San Pierto in Bevagna is a wonderful beach town, which so far has been completely uninfluenced by the onset of tourism in the region. With long, white sandy beaches and plenty of bars, restaurants and shops to explore, as well as tennis courts, and plenty of water sports including wind surfing, sailing and scuba diving.

Martina Franca is a charming town set high on the last of the hills of southern Italy. The old town centre is a delightful example of baroque architecture. Highly recommend this accommodation. A successful week with two kids (4 and 8) and the in-laws in July! ...The description of a luxury Trullo is well deserved... the restoration is very appealing... spacious and well maintained... each bedroom has its own conical roof to wake up to and they are lovely spaces....very well equipped kitchen (appreciated the all the kid/pool friendly glasses etc!) ... the pool is wonderfully heated so the kids could spend a long time in it... hammock in the olive trees...had fun being pizza chefs... the football table in the games room very popular ... great for hottest parts of the day and something for everyone (from playhouse to pool table ... all the toys were great)... the location is ideal for coffee/restaurants in pretty towns Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino... also a visit to the caves in Castellana... even tried the water park in Alberobello (fun but busy!)... The owners' plans to provide more shade and ways to extend the season are spot on... definitely one to return to!

Lovely setting, nice comfortable private terrace , great pool. Nice bedroom but kitchen small and needs more work top. Could use a jug and mugs.

Lovely trullo in a quiet peaceful setting

                                                      4 of 5
We stayed in the Luxury Suite for 10 days. The villa itself was beautiful, two trulli extended in a sympathetic manner set in a lovely quiet rural setting. Both bedrooms were of a good size and the shower/toilet room was great. All three of these rooms come off the kitchen, a functional but tiny space. Work surface was limited which meant that the kitchen table doubled up as that to. Luckily there is a lovely al fresco dining area about 20m away from the villa with plenty of shade. And a gas BBQ for great evening meals. The private pool area was another 10m on from the dining area down a pathway lined by lavender that just hummed with bees and butterflies, simply stunning. The pool was beautifully clean and a couple of free standing parasols were provided to shade the pool and/ or the sun loungers. The owners helpfully provide a map of the nearest restaurants, supermarkets, banks etc, a range of tourist leaflets and a welcome basket. The welcome basket consisted of six bottles of water, a bottle of wine, a bottle of olive oil and some fruit. The villa is well signposted from the main road, look out for "Il borgo dell querce". I've given the villa four rather than five stars for two reasons: - some of the furnishings could definitely do with upgrading, for example the pillows were extraordinarily lumpy and thick and there was very limited crockery and cutlery, we'd typically have to run the dishwasher after each meal to have enough for the next - fine however running it after the evening meal meant lots of noise and "I've finished" beeping whilst the children were trying to get to sleep in the next room. - we chose the villa over all others because the owners told us that the nearest restaurant (Villa Bacco) was 1km away. The 1km was key to us because it meant that we could walk to and fro with the children and enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with our evening meal. Sadly the nearest restaurant was 2.5km away and therefore too far for a 5 year old to walk late at night. This definitely put a dampener on our holiday.
