Holidaymakers searching for holiday rentals in Taormina also enquired about villas in Cefalu, apartments in Acireale and villas in Augusta

Taormina villas – your very own slice of Sicilian paradise

It’s no wonder Taormina is so well established as Sicily’s most popular destination. Perched on the side of a mountain with Mount Etna providing a spectacular backdrop, it’s hard to imagine a more dramatic setting for this picturesque resort town

Visitors have sought out a slice of la dolce vita in this splendidly situated corner of Sicily ever since it began to feature on the Grand Tour – a traditional trip around Europe, typically enjoyed by well-funded upper-class gentlemen in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Taormina’s lure is no less powerful today and the architectural legacy of a history that can be traced all the way back to the 4th Century BC remains thrillingly visible. The world-famous Teatro Greco is Taormina’s biggest architectural draw but remains from its later period under Roman rule and no end of beautifully restored medieval buildings all contribute to the town’s bewitching sense of history.

Taormina Villas

Taromina’s many villas offer the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the slow-paced luxury of a Sicilian holiday. With stunning Taromina accommodation available throughout the town and spread out across the surrounding coastal region, there’s no shortage of spots to make your own.

Ranging from Taormina apartments with stunning panoramic views to expansive villas on the outskirts of town with room for as many as 20 guests, this beautiful corner of Sicily boasts an abundance of properties to suit the needs and budgets of most visitors.

Taormina’s top sights

  • Teatro Greco

The Greeks had a flair for situating their theatres in front of dramatic backdrops and Teatro Greco – built during the 3rd Century BC, then largely rebuilt by the Romans around 500 years later – certainly enjoys a splendid setting on the hillside of Monte Tauro. The theatre’s acoustics remain exceptional and it plays host to music and arts events throughout the summer.

  • Villa Communale

More breath-taking views await visitors to Villa Communale, a delightful public park and botanical garden that provides a gorgeous tropical escape from the Taormina’s crowds. Designed by a Scottish lady, Florence Trevelyan Cacciola, who arrived in Taormina in the late 19th century, Villa Communale is a labyrinthine whimsy of eccentric pavilions in an eclectic mix of rococo, Romanesque and Gothic styles, and a lovely spot to spend a lazy day.

  • Isola Bella Beach

Taormina’s best beach, Isola Bella is a picture-perfect cove situated directly beneath the town (accessible by cable car or a 300-step climb). Protected from the elements by the surrounding hillside, Isola Bella beach is a real sun trap and boasts perfect, crystal clear waters. A small islet – also called Isola Bella, or the Pearl of the Ionian Sea – is connected to the beach by a thin strip of headland. Once privately owned by Florence Trevelyan, who built a small house and established a garden on the islet, this lush little island paradise is now a nature reserve.

Taormina’s best restaurants

Taormina’s warren of narrow streets and intimate piazzas are chock-a-block with stylish restaurants and charming trattorias and the standard of dining in the town is generally very high. Whether you fancy a laid-back evening in a cosy local favourite or an indulgent night of opulent gastronomy, Taormina isn’t short of options.

  • Bella Blu

The food in this casual, welcoming restaurant is perfectly nice and you can’t go too far wrong with its simple but tasty pizzas and seafood, especially at such modest prices, but Bella Blu’s real draw is the stunning bay view diners are treated to.

  • La Capinera

More captivating sea views, this time accompanied by seriously impressive high-end cuisine courtesy of Pietro D’Agostino, one of Sicily’s most highly-regarded chefs. Expect an ambitious, Michelin star worthy take on classic Sicilian cuisine.

  • Casa Gioli

Doubling as an exhibition space for local artists, this family-run town centre restaurant is warm, welcoming and characterful. Casa Gioli’s open kitchen allows diners to observe the chefs as they prepare delicious Sicilian dishes using fresh, locally-sourced products.

  • Al Saraceno

Benefitting from a stunning location at the foot of Saraceno Castle – an impressive fortification built by the Arabs in the Middle Ages – Al Saraceno’s views out across Giardini Naxos Bay might just be the best in town. Gorgeous pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven and a fine choice of classic Sicilian seafood dishes certainly won’t ruin the view.

Great location and stunning views

4 of 5
The apartment is large and well equipped. The views from the balcony, of the coast and Etna, are stunning. The photos undersell the apartment. It is far enough from the centre to be quiet while still convenient. It was very hot when we were there, up to 40 C, and we slept with all the doors to the balcony open. From the main bedroom we could just hear the beat of music from a nightclub that must have been quite a long way away. The heat defined our stay. There is no air conditioning and it was so hot that we had many cold showers a day just to try and cool down. I think the description should make it very clear that there is no WiFi. This was quite unexpected, a major inconvenience for us and a big disappointment to the children. Many times I emailed to ask for the address of the apartment and instructions to collect the key. I only got the address a week before we travelled. A representative was to meet us at the bus station but despite texting our exact arrival time long before we got there, we still waited at the bus station for half an hour in 38 C heat, before we were guided to the apartment. Oddly, the apartment has 5 different types of mains sockets and so many adapters and leads are required to get anything to work. One night, intruders made a lot of noise on the roof. It was probably adolescents making-out.

Great location and views.

Wonderful apartment, in a great location for access to taormina center and cable car to beaches. The flat was comfortable and had adequate facilities. The view from the terrace is spectacular, perfect for an evening in.
