The Spoleto region of Umbria in Italy is a peaceful and very attractive area, suitable for holidays all year round. The main town, Spoleto, is an ancient city with strong Roman influences set in the foothills of the Apennines. The region is a favourite destination for agro-tourism in Italy, with many visitors coming to enjoy the rural way of life first hand, which has gained notoriety as a magnificent way to relax and absorb the true culture of Umbria.

The annual Spoleto Festival, the Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of two worlds), in June and July transforms this peaceful region into a vibrant, exciting destination with performing arts and activities springing up on every corner of the Spoleto region. Getting a Spoleto holiday villa during the festival is a genuine coup as every room and apartment in Spoleto is taken from an early date.

Above Spoleto town, perched high on a hill is the Rocca, an impressive Papal fortress, adorned in beautiful frescos. The fortress was then turned into a prison, and touring the cells, it certainly makes you appreciate the fresh air and stunning scenery of the Spoleto scenery. The guided tours are well worth doing, as they not only inform you about the fortress, but provide interesting information which can aid your stay whichever Spoleto accommodation you choose.

There are a number of magnificent walks which can be enjoyed straight from your Spoleto villa, and aside the festival and architectural beauty, it has been walking holidays which have really put Spoleto on the tourist map. Circumnavigating the summit of Spoleto provides beautiful panoramic views of the countryside and takes you to some of the best sculptures in the town. The Ponte delle Torri is a large bridge over a shear wooded gorge which dominates the landscape on that side of the hill, and from the far end, there are a couple of long marked trails.

Sublime Getaway

La Torre is a unique and wonderful place to stay in a beautiful location. Full of character echoing its artistic past, La Torre is a relaxing and comfortable retreat, with stunning views across the valley to Spoleto. Easy access to the good regional road network allows exploration of the beautiful surrounding area with many, many historic hill towns to delight in.

Like home away from home, only you're in ITALY!

5 of 5
I visited many towns in Italy while I stayed in Spoleto with Norma and Lauri, but Spoleto was always my favorite! Norma and Lauri bent over backwards to accommodate me during my 6 week stay, even purchasing an American drip coffee pot and buying a Chromecast adapter for the TV so that I would be able to get Netflix and YouTube while I was there to watch movies at night. I loved the beautiful flowers that grew outside my flat! It was on the fourth floor with a great view and on the days when I felt kind of tired from walking I could take the elevator. The bus, train, grocery store, and covered traveling sidewalk are all within short walking distance. The main Piazza at the foot of the town was only about a 2 minute walk from where I live, and that's where it all happens in the evening! Lauri also arranged some outings with several other people who rented from him and Norma, and it was great fun to make contacts! We traveled with some of these friends during the latter part of our trip. The price was quite affordable, and so is living in Italy. I definitely plan to go back again and will stay with Norma and Lauri when I do!

Beautiful Umbria

5 of 5
We rented Spoleto Gold for a month during September and October. From there we not only enjoyed this lovely Umbrian hilltown, but took the train to other cities in Italy. It was perfect in every way. We always had a "home" to return to after travel where we could shop, cook, do our wash and regroup. Loved the nearby groceries and learning the Italian words for items. Owners Norma and Laurie provided guidance around their beautiful town, pick up at the train station, arranged a tour of an olive farm, and were available whenever we had a question or a need. Although we came to enjoy the stroll to the train station, Laurie took pity on us the rainy day we left and gave a lift. The apartment is located near the people-mover so you don't have to climb the steep hills to the top of the town (unless you are looking for exercise). We took our time and spent leisurely days just exploring this ancient, beautiful town. We also hiked the aqueduct and the hills behind. Friends highly recommended this rental to us and we would definitely recommend it to others.
