Scopello, a coastal village in northwest Sicily, offers visitors so much more than a beach holiday. The many different civilizations which have conquered the island in its long history have each left behind their own signatures. This makes for a vast collection of heritage sites which are easily accessible from Scopello, as well as diversity in the culture of the island which sets it apart from mainland Italy. Scopello houses offer a tranquil and relaxed base from which to explore everything Sicily has to offer.

Things to do in Scopello, Italy

The west coast of Sicily is renowned for its many beautiful and unspoilt beaches and this extends to the area around Scopello, making it the ideal destination for those looking to relax for a week by the sea. Calabianca, the beach just outside the village of Scopello has inviting turquoise waters and grottoes around the nearby cliffs which can be explored by hiring a boat for the day.

Visitors should also visit the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve, home to typical examples of Sicilian flora and fauna which live in the woods and bushlands. The area also includes the Villa Lo Zingaro, where visitors can stroll through the beautiful gardens and admire the sweeping seascapes beneath them.

October is a great time to visit Scopello as it is harvest time for both wine and olive industries and visitors can enjoy the various tasting sessions which are offered in the village and surrounding areas. Visitors at any time of the year should eat out at least once in one of Scopello’s restaurants, which offer up superb traditional Sicilian seafood and other dishes, made using fresh local ingredients.

Scopello is a beautiful place to visit in the summer when there is little rainfall, low humidity and temperatures of up to 30C. An excellent location, residence and warm hosts

5 of 5
A truly stunning position in Scopello overlooking the Med with Palermo in the distance. Peaceful and relaxing. The residence was spotless and had everything needed for a 10 day stay. Our hosts, Nicola and Carmen, were lovely and welcoming. The terrace overlooking the sea is entirely private and there is ready walking access to a private cove from which to swim in clear and clean water. Local amenities are limited so a car is essential. The nearby "Market" has everything you need including an amazing array of local cheeses, local wine and meat and fabulous local vegetables, olive oil, and fruit products. Easy vehicular access to nearby towns for days out. We went in early September and if it is solitude you want and a place to relax this time of year this is it. We will return.

The property was beautifully presented and in a lovely location with views of the sea.

We enjoyed the peaceful location of the villa, and its beautiful views of the sea and Zingaro nature reserve. The pool, and the and balcony along one side of the property are elevated as the villa is built on a hillside, so on all but the hottest days there was a lovely cool breeze at the poolside and on the balcony. The pool was a good size, and very welcome for cooling down, with temperatures in the high 30s. The villa was well equipped and comfortable. Mariella and Giuseppe were very welcoming hosts, and speak excellent English. They gave us lots of useful information on the surrounding area and practical tips like where to find a supermarket, and recommendations for places to eat out including gelaterias! Villa D'Amico is in a great location, a short walk from least two beaches which are great for snorkelling, and a short walk from Scopello village with its cafes and restaurants. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of Scopello too, our favourites were the beach at Guidaloca, with it's pedalo slides and ringo/jet ski rides, the Temple and amphitheatre at Segesta, the caves at Mangiapane, with a village built in to them, and the stunning hill top town of Erice, near Trapani. It was too hot to walk to the beaches in the Zingaro reserve, but we took a boat and snorkelling trip to these beaches , which left from Scopello. The towns of Gibellina and Poggioreale, devastated by an earthquake in 1968, and their memorials were also fascinating, though beware the crumbling mountain roads! Many thanks to Mariella and Giuseppe for a great holiday. We would highly recommend this property and area of Sicily.
