Make a holiday rental home or villa in Scopello, Italy your home away from home

Scopello, a coastal village in northwest Sicily, offers visitors so much more than a beach holiday. The many different civilizations which have conquered the island in its long history have each left behind their own signatures. This makes for a vast collection of heritage sites which are easily accessible from Scopello, as well as diversity in the culture of the island which sets it apart from mainland Italy. Scopello houses offer a tranquil and relaxed base from which to explore everything Sicily has to offer.

Things to do in Scopello, Italy

The west coast of Sicily is renowned for its many beautiful and unspoilt beaches and this extends to the area around Scopello, making it the ideal destination for those looking to relax for a week by the sea. Calabianca, the beach just outside the village of Scopello has inviting turquoise waters and grottoes around the nearby cliffs which can be explored by hiring a boat for the day.

Visitors should also visit the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve, home to typical examples of Sicilian flora and fauna which live in the woods and bushlands. The area also includes the Villa Lo Zingaro, where visitors can stroll through the beautiful gardens and admire the sweeping seascapes beneath them.

October is a great time to visit Scopello as it is harvest time for both wine and olive industries and visitors can enjoy the various tasting sessions which are offered in the village and surrounding areas. Visitors at any time of the year should eat out at least once in one of Scopello’s restaurants, which offer up superb traditional Sicilian seafood and other dishes, made using fresh local ingredients.

Places to visit on holiday in Scopello, Italy

Segesta, just south of Scopello was a site left by the ancient Greeks and is of interest today for its Doric temple and isolated amphitheatre. Erice, a short drive west of Scopello is full of medieval charm with its cobbled streets and castles, and also makes a great daytrip from your Scopello villa.

The capital of Sicily, Palermo, should take a place on the itinerary of any visitor to the island, is only around 70km straight up the highway from your choice of Scopello villas.

Weather in Scopello, Italy

Scopello is a beautiful place to visit in the summer when there is little rainfall, low humidity and temperatures of up to 30C. Even in the winter temperatures remain relatively mild, with lows of 8C. The coastal location does however mean rainfall increases substantially between October and January, so it’s best to pack a brolly.

The villa was fantastic and very comfortable. Nathalie was really helpful and gave us great advice.

5 of 5
Our stay in this villa was the first week of our two week vacation in Sicily and was absolutely lovely. The villa itself was just right for our group of seven with lots of space for everyone and the sea on our doorstep. Nathalie was lovely and really helpful, giving us great advice for our stay. The coast here is stunning with the Zingaro Reservation next to us on one side, the Tonnara at Scopello on the other, and the beautiful clear water of the sea just a short walk from the villa. Our holiday was at the end of the summer season and so everywhere was probably quieter than at high season, which was fine for us, and temperatures were also just right at 28 degrees. High winds on the first couple of days made getting into the sea from rocks a little challenging, but worth it. Once the wind had reduced the swimming was fantastic and especially so at the Tonnara at Scopello which was amazing. The villa was perfect for us to use as a base from which to see some of the amazing sights in the west of Sicily - Erice, Segesta, and San Vito Lo Capo were all within easy reach and worth the drive. We used the local shop on the road from Scopello where, although it was expensive, the fresh produce was very good quality. Castellammare was close enough for general supermarket shopping and Nathalie was very helpful pointing us in the right direction. First time driving in Sicily and was a bit nervous about the local driving but it was fine once we were used to the interesting approach to speed limits and how close people drive behind you! Can't praise Sicily, this area, the villa and Nathalie enough...a superb holiday we would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

An excellent location, residence and warm hosts

5 of 5
A truly stunning position in Scopello overlooking the Med with Palermo in the distance. Peaceful and relaxing. The residence was spotless and had everything needed for a 10 day stay. Our hosts, Nicola and Carmen, were lovely and welcoming. The terrace overlooking the sea is entirely private and there is ready walking access to a private cove from which to swim in clear and clean water. Local amenities are limited so a car is essential. The nearby "Market" has everything you need including an amazing array of local cheeses, local wine and meat and fabulous local vegetables, olive oil, and fruit products. Easy vehicular access to nearby towns for days out. We went in early September and if it is solitude you want and a place to relax this time of year this is it. We will return.
