Like relaxing on an ocean liner

5 of 5
This villa is really wonderful set in a high-walled private garden awash with Spring blossoms. To the rear is the sea just a few steps from the veranda. It's like being aboard an ocean liner floating in the Mediterranean Sea. The tranquility of birds singing and sea lapping is truly wonderful and relaxing. Swimming in the sea daily was so amazing especially as the house has an outside shower tucked away behind shrubs. This house is huge and there are so many places to eat both inside and out that you can select a new area for every meal. There's even a giant roof terrace which is a sun trap all day. An archeological park is 3 minutes up the road with buildings on the beach as well as in the tree shaded park. For Montalbano fans, his beachside house is 500m away along the beach. And all around there are Baroque towns used as further backdrops to the show. All glorious and totally beautiful. I didn't want to leave but someone else had booked in after me. I just wanted to stay. Some evenings the full moon sat above the sea making it glisten with silver light. The terrace was even warm all night. A tremendous place to relax by the Mediterranean.

Delightful, bright, airy and spacious inside and out.

Everyone loved it and did not want to leave. Our party was 2 mature couples with 2 elderly parents. Entering the house it has a 'wow' factor. Glass stairs and lighting in glass tiles in the floor plus huge glass doors out to the terrace give it a bright, light and airy feel. Up the glass stairs there was a fabulous upper floor with large ensuite bedroom with doors opening onto a large sun terrace. Plus a huge 'clothes' room plus a large laundry room with washing machine, iron etc. There was also a large sofa area with tv. Downstairs along with a lovely, comfortable sitting area, dining room, with extending table, and good size kitchen were 3 double bedrooms and 2 toilet/shower rooms. One of these had delightful curvy sanitary ware. This layout was ideal as we had two 85 year olds with reduced mobility and they were able to get about perfectly well on the ground floor. Outside we moved the large outdoor table to enable us to dine in the sunshine. Plus there was a cushioned seating area just on the outside terrace. Again ideal for the elderly parents. Everything was clean and attractive. A mix of modern and classic. The bedding and towels were lovely with plenty of extras. There were cushions and blankets and trays etc which made life more easy and more comfortable. We were given a warm welcome and a some delicious food and drink, including wine, cheese, salami and fruit. There was tea and coffee and spices etc. We were able to park both our cars within the property which helped as we were there on two holiday days when the area became quite busy. It was good hotel quality yet homely and it was a pleasure to return to the house after a busy day sightseeing. There was plenty of heating / air conditioning available. We didn't find a vacuum or a microwave ... We managed without them anyway. There was a manual for the washing machine but a manual for the dishwasher would have helped.. our selection was somewhat random. Gunter was on hand if needed. We visited some interesting places and had some special experiences. We were at the right place at the right time to see Inspector Montalbano being filmed. We also saw mount Etna erupting. The road surfaces are dire in many places and the extension of the motorway will make travelling a lot quicker and more comfortable. We aren't missing the bumpy ride but we are mIssing the blue skies and brightness of Sicily and the charm and comforts of Villa Marianna.
