Holidaymakers looking for a beautiful resort on the Mediterranean will love Santa Maria Navarrese. This is a wonderfully scenic place that lies on the east coast of Sardinia, which in turn is west of the Italian mainland. This coastal resort has some delightful beaches ideal for families and couples looking to relax in the sun. Various watersports can be tried here too such as water skiing, sailing, wind surfing, diving and swimming. It is a very scenic area with lovely places to walk or alternatively visitors can hire a bike, scooter or head for the horse riding school.

Golf is quite popular on the island and there are several courses mainly on the other side of the island in south west Sardinia. There are plenty of places to try out and enjoy mountain biking and climbing too. Fishing is also popular here with the waters around the north east rich with fish and offshore sport fishing trips can be arranged.

The town centre has a few useful services such as a chemist, cash machine, tourist office and police station. Visitors will also find plenty of places to socialise in the evenings with a number of restaurants, bars, pizzerias and a piano bar. A market in the town gives self-catering holidaymakers a chance to purchase food items and there are many stores selling gift and souvenirs.

Places to visit on holiday to Santa Maria Navarrese, Italy

There are many museums to visit on the island including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tortola. In fact Sardinia also boasts a few art galleries with the nearest to Santa Maria Navarrese being Galleria The Porch at Nuoro. For a fun family day out holidaymakers could visit one of the waterparks here, which are located to the north and south ends of Sardinia.

A ferry takes visitors from the seaport of Arbatax, which is about 15 kilometres from Santa Maria Navarrese, to the Italian port of Genoa. Regular ferries take tourists from Palau on the North coast of Sardinia to Caprera. Historic buildings are also featured here such as Garibaldis House, which is on island of Caprera.

Sardinia enjoys plenty of sunshine in the summer months and stays relatively mild in the winter months. The average high temperatures for July and August are 30 degrees centigrade, with 11 hours of sunshine per day in July. Most of the rainfall on the island occurs during the winter although temperatures reach a minimum high in January of 4 degrees centigrade but may be as high as 15C.

Cagliari Airport is approximately two hours away from Santa Maria Navarrese. From here there are flights to several Italian cities as well as major European cities such as London, Munich and Brussels. Ryanair has flights from several cities in Italy, Spain, Austria and Belgium. Taxi and car rentals firms are available at the airport.

Olbia Airport is a similar distance away on the North of the island and has flights to and from mainland Italy and numerous European countries such as UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Taxis are available outside the airport as well car hire companies in the terminal building.

Lovely Apartment in a perfect location.

This lovely little apartment is perfect for a family of four, it has all the home comforts and is perfectly situated as it is only a quick walk to both the village centre and three beautiful beeches. Maria Teresa, the owner is a perfect host, who obviously takes a real pride in the apartment, the place was absolutely spotless. Highly recommend.

Lovely apartment and friendly host

The apartment has everything we needed and was clean. Arrival and getting the keys was easy. Towels and linen were provided, although if I was to change anything I would say maybe to change the bedsheets to cotton as we did get quite hot at night (but this was minor!). The flat is high on a hill so the view of the sea from the balcony is beautiful. Michele is a friendly and helpful owner, special thanks for helping us with the local buses!
