Things to do

-Beaches. The main beach at San Vito Marina is a gorgeous bay, lapped by calm waters and offering panoramic views of the town, which sits on a hill overlooking the coast. Whether you want seclusion or something lively, there are resorts to suits all tastes up and down the coastline, with other fabulous beaches at Fossacesia and Ortona.

-History. San Vito Chietino has plenty of medieval heritage, with a host of handsome churches and palazzi to discover on the town’s streets. A particular highlight is the Madonna delle Grazie church, which is said to date back as far as Byzantine times, 1,500 years ago, and houses a mosaic from this era depicting “The Coronation of the Virgin”.

-Food and drink. Being next to the coast, seafood has a strong presence in local cuisine. Famous local dishes in the Chieti Province include cuttlefish alla sanvitese – fried in olive oil with chilli and garlic and then stewed in white wine. The rural landscapes west of San Vito Chietino produce truffles, olives, honey, and a wide variety of seasonal fruits.

-Trabocchi Coast. San Vito Chietino is on the Trabocchi Coast, which refers to distinctive wooden structures, similar to piers, jutting into the sea and used for fishing for centuries. Pescara is a short trip up the coast and has a variety of cultural and historical attractions to check out. There’s the excellent Vittoria Colonna Modern Art Museum, which houses work by the likes of Picasso and Miró.

-Recreation. A fabulous way to take in the full beauty of the coastline in this province is to cycle a section of the Ciclovia Adriatica, the bike path that spans the length of Italy along the Adriatic. Or you could head west to the Feudo Ugni Reserve, which boasts impressive mountain scenery and offers walking trails through beautiful dense forest.

Lovely relaxing time in great villa

5 of 5
We spent a fantastic week in this villa in lovely Abruzzo. The house is comfortable, spacious and well equipped, and the beds very comfortable. Our children spent a lot of time in the pool - very shallow at one end. The garden is secluded and a great spot for cricket - sadly we didn't get to see the resident mole who seems very fond of digging in the garden! Tony's communication was very good and the information about the local area, shops and restaurants was very helpful. The local village has a good pizzeria and local shops - great focaccia at the bakers, and fantastic wine which we found at a local vineyard. Although on a road, we were not bothered by noise and the views around of the countryside and mountains are great. Great beaches only 30 minutes' drive. All in all we had a fantastic week and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Great house in a stunning location.

4 of 5
We arrived at night time and didn't realise the extend of the beauty which surrounded the property until we got up the next morning. The majella mountains and the sea welcomed us with open arms. The house had everything we needed and we liked the simplicity of it. Overall a good experience. Roberto the owner came to fetch us at 11.30pm as we got a little lost so be aware that it may not be as easy as that to find the house. We will definitely come back. :)
