Make a holiday rental home or apartment in San Venanzo, Italy your home away from home

Conveniently located just 38km from Perugia, San Venanzo is a small commune that offers an ideal base for exploring the unspoilt region of Umbria. San Venanzo lies in the heart of an area of south-west Umbria known as Orvieto, which is famous for its excellent local wines, centuries-old churches and unspoilt green landscape. Whether you stay for a week or just visit for a day, you are sure to be charmed by tiny San Venanzo.

Things to do in San Venanzo, Italy

San Venanzo is one of the top destinations for those seeking a relaxing break in one of Italy’s most rural regions. Self-caterers will be happy here as there are a decent selection of shops and small supermarkets in the village centre, all of which sell local favourites such as olive oils, cheeses, black truffles and wine. If you decide to head out for the evening you will find that local Orvieto wines are sold in almost every bar and restaurant, especially the dry, semi-sweet offering known as Orvieto Abboccato.

With fantastic weather to be enjoyed throughout the spring, summer and early autumn, many visitors to San Venanzo like to spend their daytimes outdoors. The local area is particularly good for walking, with densely wooded areas, rolling hills and olive groves characterizing the landscape. The village centre is also good for a walk, with many of its buildings dating back to the Middle Ages.

Once an agricultural area, San Venanzo has established itself in recent years as a local centre for handicrafts, and in particular terracotta production. This speciality is displayed in the local fairs and festivals, which are held throughout the year, but more regularly in summer months – making this a great time for a visit.

Places to visit on holiday in San Venanzo, Italy

Perhaps the only downside to staying in San Venanzo is that you find it hard to decide where else to visit during your stay! Acquasparta (45km) is an interesting destination, being home to a number of ancient churches, historic castles and thermal baths. Also well worth a visit is the hill town of Todi (28km), which is often promoted as the ‘world’s most liveable city’ and has a plethora of sites that date back to the Roman times.

Weather in San Venanzo, Italy

The vast majority of the year is great for visiting San Venanzo, with the Umbrian climate being predominantly dry and warm. July (29C) and August (28C) have the highest average daily temperatures, but 20C plus temperatures can usually be enjoyed all the way from May to October. Though winter months are colder they are also some of the driest months in the calendar.

Wonderful stay at il Granaio

5 of 5
We stayed in this lovely part of Umbria for two weeks last August. Francesco was a gracious host. Always willing to help but equally gave us space to get on and enjoy our holiday. The property and grounds are spacious, with lovely views of the Umbrian hills. The swimming pool was amazing with views that couldn't be beaten. The location was ideal as it was within easy distance of towns like Perugia and Assisi to name but two and we had some lovely trips to more local towns and hill top villages. Local facilities were good with Tavernelle only a 15 minute drive away and a nice Monday morning market (and great ice creams). We'd certainly recommend this property and the local area. A real taste of Umbria.

Get away in the Umbrian hills

5 of 5
The house is beautiful and full of character. The view from the terrace is spectacular, on a clear day you can see Lago Trasemeno. The place is clean, tidy and decorated nicely, and the owners are very accommodating. The area with local towns of montegabione and Citta della pieve is very typical of the region with authentic rural charm and friendly people, and of course the cuisine. Perugia is not too far away either with it's warren of medieval streets and old buildings. A great base for further travel in the region, we will surely return for another stay.

Wonderful villa

5 of 5
We have stayed in many villas in Italy and Casale Colle Lupo definitely ranks as one of the best. The villa itself is simply but stylishly decorated, with all the comforts you need for your stay. The pool and views are wonderful. We had a very relaxing stay with our teenage children. Panicale is only a very short distance away with charming bars, restaurants and a few shops. The location is perfect for visiting the sights of Umbria and Tuscany. We thoroughly recommend this villa and will definitely return one day. The Barnett family
