Make a holiday rental home or villa in San Miniato, Italy your home away from home

The tiny medieval village of San Miniato, Italy, lies in the lower Arno Valley in Tuscany. Mid-way between Pisa and Florence, San Miniato has long had an important strategic location, the resulting wealth of which is still clearly visible in the historic buildings in the village centre.

Things to do in San Miniato, Italy

There are some beautiful sites to within the village of San Miniato. The Cathedral and its ancient Bell Tower are well worth exploring, especially due to the great range of impressive and important artistic masterpieces contained within the cathedral. The Palazzo dei Vicari and the Museum of Sacred Art also stand among the finest sights in San Miniato, Italy. San Miniato is sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Theatre’ as many of San Miniato’s medieval centres host many theatrical performances throughout the summer months. There are festivals throughout the year.

The imposing medieval architecture isn’t the main draw to self catering San Miniato accommodation though. The hills around the village actually produce a staggering 25% of Italy’s most prestigious export, white truffles. The White Truffle fair makes November an incredible time to visit the village, and although San Miniato villa rentals become very hard to find, if you can rent a San Miniato property during the fair, it truly is worth it.

One of the best ways to get to know San Miniato and the surrounding area is by walking or riding the Truffle Trail. Information on the Truffle Trail can be found in the English speaking San Miniato Tourist Information offices, located in the centre of the old town. The town’s ancient agricultural importance means that good food and wine still play a large part in the village’s culture. The wines, olives and artichokes are famous in San Miniato, who has historically kept the finest produce for their own markets, rather than selling them internationally.

Places to visit on holiday to San Miniato, Italy

A holiday rental villa in San Miniato is perfectly located for day trips and visits to Tuscany’s famous artistic city, Florence. Florence is an amazing city, home to over 30% of the world’s most important artistic treasures according to UNESCO. The city is an amazing place, and should be on everyone’s list of places to visit. During the summer months, the crowds can become quite large, but with a wonderful getaway just down the road in San Miniato, it is very easy to ignore the crowds by day.

Weather in San Miniato, Italy

Summer is wonderfully warm in San Miniato, with temperatures averaging 27˚C during July and August. Both spring and autumn are fantastic times to visit, as temperatures are still blissfully warm, yet the sting has been taken out of midday. Crowds have also disappeared by September, and are yet to arrive until June, although if you do not head to the main tourist centres, you won’t see a crowd from a self catering San Miniato property rental at any time of the year.

Travel to San Miniato, Italy

A villa in San Miniato, Italy, is located half way between Florence (FLR) and Pisa (PSA) airports. There are regular flights from the UK to both airports, provided by both the ‘no frills’ airlines and the more luxurious airlines. Taking a hire car from the airport is advised.

Beautiful setting with a small caveat

4 of 5
We loved the property and the setting and Elisabeth could not have been a more welcoming host. Casa Podere and it's grounds are beautiful and the views of the surrounding countryside are everything we hoped Tuscany would be. We really liked San Casciano which is a short walk away and provided for most of our needs. We rented the apartment closest to the main house and it was well equipped for lazy days in the garden and eating in. The only downside to our stay was that the other rental apartment in the annex was also occupied and the noise between the two became quite intrusive (+ we couldn't use the beautiful terrace!). I think we were unlucky in that the other guests seemed somewhat nocturnal (and noisy) but nonetheless it spoiled the feeling of being somewhere peaceful and relaxing. Coming from central London I didn't expect more noise at night in the Tuscan hills. A small blot on our stay but something of which to be aware.

Fantastic place, terrific hosts

5 of 5
We stayed in a 3-bedroom villa in Il Bacio from April 22nd to 28th 2017 and loved every minute of it. All accommodations were exactly as described - beautiful, clean and comfortable. The hospitality of Sonia and Franco exceeded all expectations. We were running very late and arrived after 10 PM. They waited for us and greeted us warmly and helped to get settled. We were after a long drive and did not have a supper, so they brought bread, cheese, salami and wine for us - all delicious. The place is conveniently located for travel to Florence, Sienna, Pisa and all places in between. Additionally, we are very grateful to our hosts for pointing us towards many small towns and medieval villages in the area that we had a great pleasure visiting. Irina Zeman and Co
