Make a holiday rental home or villa in San Miniato, Italy your home away from home

The tiny medieval village of San Miniato, Italy, lies in the lower Arno Valley in Tuscany. Mid-way between Pisa and Florence, San Miniato has long had an important strategic location, the resulting wealth of which is still clearly visible in the historic buildings in the village centre.

Things to do in San Miniato, Italy

There are some beautiful sites to within the village of San Miniato. The Cathedral and its ancient Bell Tower are well worth exploring, especially due to the great range of impressive and important artistic masterpieces contained within the cathedral. The Palazzo dei Vicari and the Museum of Sacred Art also stand among the finest sights in San Miniato, Italy. San Miniato is sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Theatre’ as many of San Miniato’s medieval centres host many theatrical performances throughout the summer months. There are festivals throughout the year.

The imposing medieval architecture isn’t the main draw to self catering San Miniato accommodation though. The hills around the village actually produce a staggering 25% of Italy’s most prestigious export, white truffles. The White Truffle fair makes November an incredible time to visit the village, and although San Miniato villa rentals become very hard to find, if you can rent a San Miniato property during the fair, it truly is worth it.

One of the best ways to get to know San Miniato and the surrounding area is by walking or riding the Truffle Trail. Information on the Truffle Trail can be found in the English speaking San Miniato Tourist Information offices, located in the centre of the old town. The town’s ancient agricultural importance means that good food and wine still play a large part in the village’s culture. The wines, olives and artichokes are famous in San Miniato, who has historically kept the finest produce for their own markets, rather than selling them internationally.

Places to visit on holiday to San Miniato, Italy

A holiday rental villa in San Miniato is perfectly located for day trips and visits to Tuscany’s famous artistic city, Florence. Florence is an amazing city, home to over 30% of the world’s most important artistic treasures according to UNESCO. The city is an amazing place, and should be on everyone’s list of places to visit. During the summer months, the crowds can become quite large, but with a wonderful getaway just down the road in San Miniato, it is very easy to ignore the crowds by day.

Weather in San Miniato, Italy

Summer is wonderfully warm in San Miniato, with temperatures averaging 27˚C during July and August. Both spring and autumn are fantastic times to visit, as temperatures are still blissfully warm, yet the sting has been taken out of midday. Crowds have also disappeared by September, and are yet to arrive until June, although if you do not head to the main tourist centres, you won’t see a crowd from a self catering San Miniato property rental at any time of the year.

Travel to San Miniato, Italy

A villa in San Miniato, Italy, is located half way between Florence (FLR) and Pisa (PSA) airports. There are regular flights from the UK to both airports, provided by both the ‘no frills’ airlines and the more luxurious airlines. Taking a hire car from the airport is advised.

Luxury stay in the heart of Tuscany

5 of 5
Amazing amazing casa Colomba is one of the most beautiful places I've stayed in Tuscany. The villa is decorated in true Tuscan style and is immensely clean. Lorenzo and Marie are fantastic hosts and nothing was too much for them. Their local knowledge will ensure that you have a problem free holiday. Five stars all the way.

Peaceful Tuscan Retreat

5 of 5
My husband, younger don and I stayed at Miria and Adriano's beautiful farmhouse during my son's October school holiday. The farmhouse is as beautiful as the pictures show. It is roomy, comfortable and individually decorated. Chianni is a super village with 3 really good restaurants within walking distance. There are also a couple of bars, ATMs and mini markets. The Saturday market offers an excellent choice of fruit and vegetables. The farmhouse is a great base to tour Tuscany. We visited Volterra, Lajtico, San Giminjano, Florence, Lucca, Livorno and Pisa. Miria and Adriano gave us a very warm welcome, were accommodating in topping up the wifi and took great care to ensure we made the most of our visit. It farmhouse is at the bottom of a very steep stones path which is pitch dark in the evening so flat shoes and a torch are required! We would have no hesitation in recommending the farmhouse and Chianni in general. Grazie tanto, speriamo di essere di nuovo. Judith, Alan and Jamie

Stunning hideaway in the Tuscan Hills.

5 of 5
We stayed in Buti between the 21st and 28th Sept., 2016, and after travelling in from Pisa airport, a journey of around 45 mins., we met Guiseppe and family at the property. Our first impressions were WOW, and the family proceeded to show us around and explain the workings of the property. After they left, we were treated to a Tuscan thunder storm which made the experience even more special! We found the property very functional, there were 4 of us in the party and there was plenty of space to give each couple a sense of privacy, and breakfasting on the terrace each morning (thankfully the weather did improve after that first day!) was a lovely start to the day. We also found the location to be ideal for travelling into Pisa and Florence, we drove to Pisa (about 45 mins) and took the train from Cascina (about a 20 minute drive) into Florence as we thought parking would be difficult there. The train service was very efficient and around 6 euros each way for the 1 hr journey, a recommended stress-free way to see the city. We'd also highly recommend the town of Lucca (around 35 mins), and Volterra (around 1 hr) to add to your itinerary. The local village of Buti was just ok, fine for getting essentials like bread and milk, but quite limited for eating out. We did however find a little gem of a restaurant called Il Maggi, just off the main square in Buti, reasonably priced and the food was stunning. We'd also recommend one just a 10 minute drive towards Bientini, called La Valetta, a superb family-style restaurant with sensational pizza. All in all we had a fabulous stay and we would highly recommend the villa for anyone seeking peace, quiet and tranquility during their holiday.
