Make a holiday apartment in Rome your home away from home

However you want to spend your Roman holiday, you’ll be able to find your ideal Rome apartment rental on HomeAway. Rome has more than 2,500 years of history, much of which is preserved as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There’s a wide selection of Rome apartments in a host of shapes, styles, and sizes, from sprawling luxury apartments in the Centro Storico to cosy studios in Trastevere. You can pick an apartment in Rome with the easiest connections to the coast, or opt for the heart of the city and all its culture and amenities. You can also define the extras you’d like at your Rome holiday home, with modern comforts like air-conditioning, which is a useful convenience in the summer months.

Things to do from your holiday apartment in Rome

-Ancient history. There are a host of remnants from Ancient Rome, some of which are remarkably well preserved. One is the Pantheon in Old Rome, which dates to the 2nd Century and is immaculate. Elsewhere there’s the Roman Forum, the various ruins on the Appian Way, as well as the baths of the Caracalla and, naturally, the Colosseum.

-Museums. Villa Borghese is home to many of Rome’s premier museums and cultural institutions. Here you can see a wealth of ancient, Renaissance and impressionist art at the Museo Nazionale di Villa Guilia, Galleria Nazionale d’ArteModerna and the Galleria Borghese. For Ancient Roman and Greek sculpture there are the Capitoline Museums in the Colosseo area.

-Religious landmarks. Containing the Vatican, and home to many hundreds of churches, Rome’s religious heritage is impressive. It would be well worth having a look at the interiors, which boast magnificent frescoes and other historic works of art. One of the earliest is San Clemente in Colosseo - built over a temple to Mithras from the 100s.

-Shopping. Rome is a city that appeals to all kinds of shoppers, with luxury designer shops, malls and markets. The hotspot for luxury fashion brands is Via Condotti, with its neighbour Via del Corso featuring slightly less expensive, high street brands. The largest mall in the city is Euroma2, which boasts more than 200 shops and services in the EUR area.

-Dining. Visiting Rome you’ll be able to enjoy an abundance of great restaurants, trattorias and cafes, which are scattered throughout the city. Traditional local dishes include oxtail stew, chicory salad, spaghetti carbonara and pasta all’ amatriciana. First-class gelato is ubiquitous, and there’s always an excellent pizzeria close by.

Weather in Rome

Rome is in a Mediterranean climate zone, which makes for warm summers and mild winters. Temperatures reach the mid-20s in the month of May, and the warm weather lasts all the way until October. In July and August daytime highs reach above 30 degrees on a consistent basis. Autumn and spring weather is moderate, with a little more rainfall than in summer and the odd unseasonably warm or cool spell. Winters are quite short, and still bring highs that usually get into double figures.

Travelling to your Rome holiday apartment

As the saying suggests, Rome continues to be a major meeting point for roads, but also railways and air transport. The city’s two main airports are Leonardo da Vinci (FCO) and Rome Ciampino (CIA). The former is the busiest airport in Italy, and can be reached from across the world. Ciampino is smaller and served mainly by pan-European low-cost airlines. At your holiday home in Rome you’ll have a number of urban transport systems at your service, including buses, the Metro, which has two lines, commuter rail, serving suburban areas, and even urban trams, for which there are six lines.

Perfect location, perfect stay & wonderful host - great apartment, highly recommended

5 of 5
Our first visit to Rome was definitely helped by our clean, smart apartment in the centre of everything. Lucia was marvellous, taking time out to welcome us and ensuring our stay was worry free - organising taxi's to and from the airport, recommending a restaurant. The apartment itself has two nice bedrooms and a sofa-bed if you need it, the kitchen has all the amenenities you need. The apartment is very centrally located and quiet - we pre-booked tickets for a 2 day hop on hop off tour bus but only used it once as we were able to walk to everywhere 15 minutes one way to Vatican and 20 minutes to the Colosseum We are a family of 5 and we all would go back to Rome and go back to this apartment - very highly recommend the apartment

Excellent Apartment in an Excellent location.

Contact with owner - Excellent. Monica answered emails within hours and provided answers to all my questions. Location, Transport etc. Jasmine who met us at the apartment was a mine of information, local shops, ideas on when to visit. She even ordered a taxi on the last day and stayed until it arrived to ensure we had no problems. The bottle of wine was also a nice touch. As there were no immediate guests after us, Jasmine was accommodating on us staying slightly longer on the last day - very much appreciated. Location - Excellent. On a quiet residential street (only on one side). 5 Minutes stroll from the bus (64), 10 minute stroll from St Peters Square, 15 minutes stroll from Metro (Octaviano - St Pietro) via St Peters Square. Carrefoure supermarket, 10 minutes, bottom of street, turn left up the road on the other side. At the bottom of the road, there are at least 10 restaurants if you want to eat closer to home after a long day, 5 minutes up the road by the Vatican there are many many more. Its on the Vatican side of town, which means you get to walk past the Vatican twice a day, you can never get tired of seeing it, and away from the hustle and bustle of hordes of people in the middle of town. Transport links are excellent, so getting back into the centre does not take long. Apartment - Excellent. Its in a block of 16/20 residential apartments. Both the decoration and appliances (Cooker, washing machine) are very high quality, no scrimping here. The whisper quiet air conditioning is a god-send, and the living room and two bedrooms have their own independent units. It is advertised as sleeping 5, but with two double beds, (wider than you get in the average hotel) and a pair of bunk beds, I make that at least 6 without the need for the sofa. If you have an Amazon firestick, take it, the wifi is excellent as well. If you want a reasonably priced apartment away from the bustle but close enough to get where you want to get quickly, then look no further, it was a pleasure from start to finish,
