Make holiday rental accommodation or a villa in Ravello, Italy your home away from home

Ravello is a beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast in northern Italy. Perched high above the coast, a holiday home in Ravello affords its guests some of the finest views in the whole of Campania. Ravello is known primarily for two things; its gardens and its annual classical music festival, during which it is almost impossible to find a Ravello hotel room or rental villa unless you book early.

Things to do on holiday in Ravello, Italy

Ravello has become very popular with honeymooners, as there is an unavoidable sense of natural beauty and peace throughout the town. The two large botanical gardens, Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo are marvels of tropical vegetation, offering stunning views over the Mediterranean as well as a delightfully peaceful place to walk. The San Pantaleone Cathedral or Duomo is also well worth visiting from any Ravello property too.

Ravello has a long connection to classical music, having been the inspiration for much of Wagner’s work. Ravello is the home to a whole host of classical concerts from March until November, often occurring in the botanical gardens of Ravello, where the astonishing views only add to the atmosphere and excitement.

Its location at the top of the Dragone Valley means that Revello walking holidays are fantastic. There are a huge number of routes throughout the Campanian countryside and along the Amalfi Coast, and there are plenty of fantastic bars, restaurants and cafes in which to find some refreshment after long hours in Ravello walking.

Places to visit on holiday in Ravello, Italy

If you have time, either on your way from the airport to your Ravello accommodation or on your way home, a tour of Naples is well worth the time. The city is brimming with fascinating places of interest, and tours to Pompeii or the amazing ruins of Paestum are easily arranged from the centre of the city.

Weather in Ravello, Italy

Walking in Ravello is a favoured past time throughout the year due to the wonderfully mild climate the town enjoys. During the height of summer, temperatures are easily warm enough to take advantage of the fantastic beaches of the Amlafi Coast, averaging around 26˚C in July and August. The best time for walks in Ravello is between the end of April and the beginning of June, and again between the end of September until late October when temperatures still average over 20˚C, but the heat of midday is reduced.

Travel to Ravello, Italy

Naples’ Capodichino Airport is the closest to any of the holiday rental properties in Ravello, which receives many daily flights from across the UK, provided by a good range of airlines from the ‘no frills’ flights to the more luxurious and expensive. The roads of the Amalfi Coast are notoriously treacherous, but there are plenty of bus and taxi services available from Amalfi, just a few miles down the coast.

Utterly stunning property with a view to die for

5 of 5
The 180 degree view is simply fantastic. The villa is beautifully decorated in great taste, and the furniture and beds are very comfortable. All the equipment, kitchen appliances etc. are really good quality, and kept in good condition. The property is self contained, with a gorgeous large private shaded terrace, with several options for lounging eating and sitting. It also has a quite secluded, heated open air shower which is great for "freshening up" al fresco. It's surrounded by lovely terraced gardens, which you walk through to access the shared swimming platform area. While there are a fair number of steps, we found it an easy walk. The platform has 3 separate areas with their own secure storage, complete with complimentary sun beds, snorkelling gear etc. so you have your own space to lie in and swim from. We mainly had it to ourselves during the holiday. There is secure shaded parking off road with automatic gates, which is worth its weight in gold in this area. This can be tricky to use at busy times / initially, but there is plenty of space and it's easy once you become familiar. There are very few, easy steps from the car to the front door, so very convenient for bringing in the shopping too. Amalfi, Ravello, Maiori and Minori are all close by, so the position is very central and convenient to explore from. The property is reasonably close to the road, so you do hear some traffic noise, and horns at busy times. but it is below road level, and well insulated from the sound, and we didn't find the sound intrusive. In fact we felt it was really peaceful and secluded, with almost no noise from neighbours or nearby clubs etc. and it actually felt quite remote from late afternoon onwards. Given how close most properties are to the road on the Amalfi coast, you will probably get as much, or more noise unless you are willing to walk hundreds of steps down from the road. The agent and family were absolutely lovely, giving us a genuinely warm welcome, so the atmosphere was really comfortable too. Really, really fabulous, we will return for sure.

Ravello Revealed

5 of 5
My wife and I just spent a glorious week in Ravello House, perched on a spectacular site overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the village below in the valley. The apartment comes well equipped with a great shower and everything else you might need. The real prize, however is the beautiful terrace surrounded by steep terraced plots which are carefully nurtured by the local inhabitants. Even though you are close to civilisation there is a real feeling of being immersed in nature with the distant sound of cockerels crowing and the chiming of the bells of medieval churches, of which there are many. The town of Ravello is beautiful, historic and a centre for musical events. It is about fifteen minutes walk uphill. A certain level of fitness would be required for this property as the walk to the road and the village is all uphill with many, many steps. Walter, our host was wonderful and I almost forgot , if you like nice food this is definitely the place for you. Loads of great restaurants, one better than the next. Can't wait to go back.
