Make a holiday rental home or villa in Puglia, Italy your home away from home

Puglia (or Apulia), is a gastronomic honey pot. Located on the South East or ‘heel’ of Italy, Puglia provides much of Italy’s fresh produce. 70% of Italy’s fish, olive oil and pasta all comes from this region, which is enough of an excuse alone to take a holiday rental in Puglia! Puglia is a dramatic land of natural beauty too, with stunning views offered from the majority of Puglia's holiday villas.

Places to holiday in Puglia (Apulia), Italy

Lecce in the southern region of Salento is a city often overlooked by tourists. It is a lavishly decorated city in the south of Puglia. Light pink local sandstone has been ornately crafted in local Pugliese styles to create some of the most intricate masonry in the world. It is an undiscovered art lover’s haven.

At the heart of trulli district lies the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello. This is the ideal place to rent Puglia luxury holiday accommodation if you are looking to explore the stunning architectural and artistic beauty of Italy.

Galatina has a spectacular historic centre with Baroque churches and palazzos with one of the highlights being the famous floor-to-ceiling frescos of the Basilica Santa Caterina d'Alessandria

Things to do in Puglia (Apulia), Italy

Having been invaded by Greek, Spanish and almost every other power in the region, Puglia has a fascinating mix of architecture in gothic, renaissance, Romanesque and classical styles. Puglia is equally as interesting from this point of view as the much celebrated towns of North Italy, yet Puglia remains less crowded and completely alien to its North Italian counterparts. The trulli of Puglia are whitewashed cones build of stone, visible across the countryside.

For the active holiday maker, there are plenty of spots along the coast perfect for windsurfing and sailing, as well as snorkelling and scuba diving.

Puglia is essentially flat and therefore a cyclist’s paradise. The unbelievable scenery of trulli, castles, monuments and raw countryside mean that taking a bicycle from your Puglia holiday villa will give you a holiday experience you will never forget.

Taking a daytrip to the small islands of Tremiti is a popular excursion, where you can walk and cycle through the wooded shores of the Gargano National Park.

Weather in Puglia (Apulia), Italy

Puglia is one of the hottest and driest regions in Italy. Summers are scorching, particularly in Salento where temperatures are around 37°C, and winters, although there can be strong winds, are also relatively warm, averaging around 10°C.

Travel to Puglia (Apulia). Italy

Puglia travel is very convenient with two airports, Bari (BRI) and Brindisi (BDS), which means that all the Puglia holiday villas are within an hour of landing in Puglia. Ryanair offer cheap flights from London Stansted to Bari, so try them first.

Compact and tastefully decorated traditional trulli in a beautiful rural setting

4 of 5
A great little find- we were worried it would be a bit of a squeeze for 4 of us but we managed well- the kitchen area is very small but adequate for preparing simple meals which works well in conjunction with eating out on some nights at nearby Ceglie Messapica. There is not a true second bedroom - there are 2 singles including a truckle pull out bed- both of which are in the kitchen / living area but easily stowed away during the day. Lovely private covered veranda with large table provides an extra ‘outside room’ effectively for meals.

Stylish Sanctuary

5 of 5
We had a great experience staying with Michele & Maria, the villa lived up to our expectations, its was very clean, well equipped and the location is very close to the sea and if you like seafood the local fishmongers are worth a visit. The pool was refreshing, the roof terrace was so pleasant that we could have stayed all day but there is limited shade so be careful. We had a couple of short power outages during our stay but never more than 10-15mins but other than that everything worked as expected. Torre a Mare is a short bike ride away, there were 3 adult bikes available and we enjoyed the restaurants, coffee shops and gelateria's. We were sorry to leave, especially leaving our new friend, the neighbours friendly dog on the adjacent plot who we named Rufus Hound. If you go, then be sure to give him a biscuit from us.
